I've thought about it literally:

Operationally define "chicken" as the first "proper" chicken (Gallus gallus domesticus) to roam the earth.
It had been evolved into from some ancestor(s), whose traits (caused by genetic mutations in both parents) have been passed down through generations.
The first time those particular genes that make a chicken a chicken are all found in one individual, is in an egg, which grows up to be the first proper chicken.
(That chicken's parents weren't real chickens because they didn't have all the traits that this offspring, the real chicken, had.)

Therefore, the egg came first. QED

I do hope I'm making sense. Maybe I need to draw a diagram.

Why is it not okay to have a boyfriend and a girlfriend when everyone agrees to date each other?

When one takes an item from someone else without asking (stealing), one is reprimanded. Why is it that whenever I take post-usage items from the student government room, I get thanked? :?

Why do Some People park their cars, worth thousands of dollars, in the driveway, when their garages are full of junk that is destined for trash pick-up, yard sale, or Salvation Army?

Why can loose and unloose mean the same thing?

Why does "flammable" and "inflammable" mean the same thing?

(Oh wait, I know this already.)

Does, "a picture is worth a thousand words," apply to minimalist modern art?

[Good one!]

It originally meant "inflame-able", but the pronunciation got a lot of people confused, so it got changed to "flammable".

[Come to think of it, it does apply provided that the speaker is an un-critical critic.]

How would the equivalent of today look if more than one civilization-forming species existed, especially with respect to philosophers and ethics?

[That's not a Philosoraptor-style question, but OK.]

What if Pinocchio said, "my nose will now grow"?
