About $1500 - $2000 a year.

Electronics, computer upgrades, toys/collectables, car stuff.

I'm cheap though.. I'll buy stuff used, discontinued, refurb'ed.

I waited two years for the specific netbook I wanted. Finally got it last xmas, discontinued and refurb'ed..... $290 instead of $600, spent $100 giving it upgrades.

The tablet we got for a song, $150.... Spent $60 upgrading storage.

I get mad if I am forced to pay full fair for items.

I convinced my BF to haggle over the price of our new tv before we went shopping... He managed to talk the salesdrone down $500, included delivery, taxes, recycle fee and setup and got a 5 year warranty thrown in to boot!

The cigarette smoking on the other hand is outrageous... between two people it's around $500-$600/month just on smokes.... Have to quit that.

I buy a lot of obscure neurology books, which are pretty expensive because almost nobody buys them.

I would guess around £2000/yr though last year I probably spent around £6000. This is not counting the computers as they are mostly hand-me-downs from the business and are written off against tax.

Well, it's not consistently pricey since I don't have to buy it all the time, but I'd say that art and music are pretty expensive, at least to start out with.

my cello: $1900
electric guitar: $250
amp: $125ish
acoustic guitar: $350
strings: probably $40 a year between the 2 guitars

1 good art brush: $12 (I have many)
1 tube of good paint: upwards of $10
macbook pro + Adobe CS5: I didn't have to pay for it, but if I did, about $3000
wacom drawing tablet: $50

...yeah. At least my special interest isn't high fashion or something like that. And I can view many of these items as business overhead since I want to go into graphic design/illustration and play in a rock band or orchestra on the side.

It's mainly video games and art, so the cost of buying new games is pretty expensive, whereas I can buy a set of watercolors for the spare change in my pocket.

Oh, and the internet, but I don't pay the bills, so...

The most expensive hobby I have is probably art and tabletop. I haven't made the full leap into tabletop because I'm not comfortable with my painting skills, I still have a box of chaos space marines from 2009 I'm too scared to ruin and paint. I'll probably make the jump this summer though, several people on the internet have urged me not to get involved with tabletop due to the costs and it being a "waste" but I don't care. I've always found it awesome to look at it and I think "non-video" gaming is the coolest. There's a lot of games/systems I want to try, like Warmachine and Infinity. Put together models too, though its been awhile. Less expensive or more depending on the type you get.

Reading is cheaper, unless I'm looking for a specific out of print book to add to my collection. The money I spend on video games varies a lot, though its gone down a good deal. I use to make a lot of dumb purchases, like a fighting stick for my ps3 only to realize I didn't like fighting games as much as I thought I did and then there's the matter of the Mass Effect 3 Collector's Edition . At least I was able to sell the stick on ebay. Nowadays nothing much game wise really interests me, I do want a 3ds though.

I'd love to get into making music as well, would probably try getting piano lessons first though.

I decline to answer directly, but I will say that I don't allow my special interests to put financial stability in jeopardy. I have a sense of a threshold where that would become a threat.

Apparently, buying real estate and selling it a year later at a loss is my new hobby. Modifying my car used to be my most expensive hobby but I guess I've graduated.

All my current interests are a bit expensive, my primate toy and book collecting for one thing, I also have a strong interest in baking so I get a lot of ingredients and things and also foreign groceries. I can't enter an oriental supermarket without coming out carrying at least 2 bags full!
I have a cardboard box called the foreign box that holds all my foodstuffs I've collected.

I think all of these interests have cost me a good few hundred this year, I could have easily got some driving lessons and other important things with that money. But noooope, chimp shaped trinkets and American chocolate bars must come first!

My SL subscription costs $72/year (I used to pay it quarterly but I changed it to annually to free up the cash flow for my household expenditure).

I also buy an additional $20 worth of SL dollars once every several weeks.

Right now, I've bartered goods to a riding instructor I know for a finite amount of lessons. When they run out, she said she may have some painting jobs for me. Like fixing up some jumps with faux finishes, easy stuff. After that, I'm not sure. Hopefully someone will pick up my book for publishing. Either that or I have to win the "Publisher's Clearing House" sweepstakes.

My special interest, equestrian sports esp. hunter/jumper, costs between 2,000 and 8,000 dollars US a year. 8O 8O 8O

(ouch! it looks even worse when I write it down)

The science (and partially history) part of my interests don't require much money. I usually can just check out books in the library or watch videos and read articles online. Occasionally I will buy a book that will cost about $16, or go to a museum though.

As for art... costs quite a bit I guess. I have about Prismacolor Markers which cost about three dollars each and about Copic Markers that range from 4-8 dollars each. There's also the paint brushes, acrylic paint, all those color pencils, sketchbooks, painting canvas... oh, and I'm getting a tablet and Paint Toll Sai soon too.

My special interests mostly involve movies and video games. Movies are pretty cheap as most of the DVDs I've bought only costed me like $5 each, but video games are kind of expensive as new games for the PS3 can cost around $60. To get movies and video games I mostly rely on gifts from my family around my birthday or the holidays or whenever my parents are feeling generous they will buy a game or movie for me as a treat. However recently I've started getting paid an allowance of $20 a month so I've been able to save my money for things like that, though since I have some pet hermit crabs now I really need to start saving for important things that they need...

Grocery shopping/grocery lists/cooking is my main special interest and it would cost me about $140 a month if I bought groceries myself. I don't though. I also play neopets a lot but I don't do any of their real money purchases.
