True. americans are scared of just about everything these days, I blame the media.

why just look at the news. its like a day time soap ffs, remember when they had a color coded terrorism threat level for that pirticular day? scared the sh-t out of everyone haha

NYers don't share this problem, and I don't think most of them ever cared about the color coded terrorism alerts either. It's exclusively a "rest of the country" problem.

But why new security measures? I am more concerned they are going to start making the security more like it is at an airport which pisses me off. Let me guess it's supposed to reduce 'terrorism' or maybe it has to do with the war on drugs since people might bring drugs on the bus but you know I'd rather have terrorism and drugs than a complete lack of freedom

I didn't notice any security measures when I rode it except a guy ran a wand over my carryon backpack & all the passengers carryon bags as they were boarding at one stop in Alabama; it was on the trip there & back. I traveled from Louisiana to Vermont. Some of the drivers gave speeches when they were leaving the stops that greyhound had a zero-tolerance policy for doing drugs, drinking alcohol & smoking & they'd get state-police to take you off the bus for that. Maybe they are going to want ID when boarding to make sure the rider isn't using someone elses tickets; like didn't steal them; ID needs to match the ticket. Or maybe some people are on their Do Not Ride List for violating the zero-tolerance policy & they want to keep them from trying to sneak on.
Maybe a lawyer could help with getting your ID hanyo if you or your family or family friends know any.

I haven't done anything more yet. I don't get out of the house much.

I guess eventually I need to either go to the dmv and try to talk to someone there or go to the post office and find out whether what I have will be enough secondary id to count along with my mother verifying my identity for a passport. There is no way for me to get 6 points off that list if I can't get a passport.

I don't like to call places and the times my mother tried to call the dmv she got some kind of recording about how they were too busy to take calls.

It is ridiculous to show ID just to hop on the bus.. plus trip to the NYS DMV is a pain in the ass...
Yeah sorry to hear but you're gonna have to bite the bullet and just get a state issued photo ID or a learner's permit which is what I have. Get there early in the morning. Good luck!

A state issued photo ID is what I'm trying to get. That, a learner's permit, or a license all have the same requirements for proof of identity to get which I just don't have. It's pretty ridiculous. On another site someone posted the requirements for their state and there all I'd need is my birth certificate, social security card, and verification from my mother.

Heather, the issue is NY's requirements exclude some people from being able to get an ID, unless they go to the trouble of applying for, paying for and getting a passport. Most of their eligible proofs of identity are things you can't get without first having an ID, which creates a vicious circle. It seems to be a hole in the law. The OP needs a passport first, which is going to take 6 weeks unless also willing to pay an arm and a leg

Yeah I don't know why NYS DMV makes it ridiculously difficult for someone to get a state issued ID unless the person has a passport and getting a passport is no easy task either ._.

We should really have a 5 boroughs aspie meetup. I've asked about this a few times but it's been like herding cats.

Sorry for bumping up an old topic but I wanted to post that this was resolved.

I recently got diagnosed with something and the place that diagnosed me hooked me up with someone that helped me get Medicaid which gave me a benefit card which got me my last two points I needed.
