Why is the death penalty good yet assisted suicide is bad?

In America, we can hardly afford to feed and care for felony criminals, much less those who will never be released.
The cost of care for the Manson Family is in the millions, after 43 years, as a example.
One of them was paroled and promptly tried to assassinate the president.

Assisted suicide is very 'iffy'...there are cases of murder and attempted murder where the attacker tried to claim'assisted suicide' was the intent.
