I'm from Ontario and like the OP said they generally go back the day after Labour Day in September. I'm going to college this year though and I only have a 2 hour orientation on the first day of school on Tuesday then I get Wednesdays off so my first real day of school doesn't start until the Thursday.
When did they stop for the summer? Am I right in saying it was 28th June? If so, that seems like a very long break. Our kids get 7 weeks, which seems long.

In Scotland, the kids go back to school during the third week in August. My daughter went back on Wednesday. The rest of the UK is different. They stop in July and go back in September. I don't know why our summer holidays are so early compared to the other parts. The place has hardly warmed up and they're back in school.

CockneyRebel, How long do Canadian kids get for their summer holidays? I was in Ontario in June/July and they stopped on the 28th of June. This was the same day my daughter was supposed to stop, but we were naughty and took her out of school for the last few days.

The kids get out of school on June 28th and go back to school the day after labour day.

Next week my sister has school again, but high schools start again the week after that :o I prefer them skipping school over being outside and loafing around because they're bored really xD Atleast they're a lot more docile when they skip school. But then again i live near 4 high schools in the area, so i'm bound to get bothered sometime again this school year, especially since they all seem to have the compulsive urge to say hello but i never say something back because i don't know them, sorry i rambled xD

So the summer holiday only lasts a month, or less than a month??? Wow, and I thought 6 weeks was short, be even that is more than a month.
By my arithmetic, it's 6 weeks (half of December and almost the whole of January).

I don't know much about Galifrey summer holidays, I'm not even sure what it means to say January on Galifrey. But I think that the reason they go back to school so early in Scotland is probably the temperature difference? its warmer mid June - mid August than shifted 2 weeks?

Yeah, summer vacation is pretty long. I think it has to do with our hot, humid weather here in Ontario during the summer. We also get a March break which is one week but when I was younger I remember we had two weeks of March Break and then the government changed things.

Normally it's after Labor Day, but the school district made it Semptember 4th for all students, and Semptember 3rd for all Kindergarten, 1st, 4th, 7th, and 9th graders.

(Hoooray! I'm in the 11th grade. :P)

But, as usual, we tend to get better days August/September, even into the start of October. One of the best days we've had all summer was on Wednesday, the day they went back to school. We're actually more likely to get a heatwave outwith the summer, maybe as early as March/April (which happened this year) and then we might get a flicker of snow in May or June. Our weather is totally tupsy-turvy. :?

This is why I love living in Britain, lol, I hate the heat so it's kind of nice not to have a massive heatwave! Wish our holidays were as long as US/Canada though, if it were longer than six weeks, could do something more constructive in it. We'll probably get some sun sometime around October like last year :p

It depends on the school district here.

I'm already back in school. My first day was on August 14th.
Summer vacation started in the middle of May for me.
