Bugs are just simple creatures trying to make their way in the world. They do not know or see themselves as pests. There are times I must kill them when they are in the home, but I take no enjoyment in it. I wouldn't want your Karma.

And I wouldn't want your Karma either. Each to his own. I would never hurt any fuzzy creatures we kept as pets. So, stop feeling so sorry for an annoying pest such as a fly, that only brings desease and is a pain in the arse. Try not to put the human spin on an annoying pest as if it had a brain that thinks like us.

To you, this is a joke. To me, it's just good advice.

I've used hairspray and a lighter before. Bug spray just isn't quick enough.

Bugs freak me the holy hell out.

That sounds more like the "How to Burn Your House Down" thread. But I wish I'd thought of that the other night... ("Attack of the Flying Roaches" coming soon to a Random Discussion thread near you...)

I read somewhere that flies can see really well in all directions except for directly above them.

All things have a purpose. Flies and such-like breakdown and eliminate decaying material which would otherwise be even more of a disease threat. A creatures closeness to human kind is irrevelent. Nature has no favorites. But you might want to look into crematation. Otherwise the aunts and uncles and third cousins of the bugs you kill will eat you in the end.

Holy Crap. Lighten up a little! Let's don't turn this into another useless debate that may get this thread locked. I started this thread to have a little fun, not argue with others.

I catch them in my designated fly jar, then release them outside. But the cat hunts them, then eats them, so I don't have to do it often.

Consider it lightened. Actually a little was tongue-in-cheek. But not all. It is not easy being a Bug Rights advocate, let me tell you.

I have turned my home into a refuge for house spiders.

The only bugs I don't kill and even welcome into my house are lady bugs. I have a lot of spiders in my house too. Always cleaning spider webs off the ceilings and walls. A few winters ago, a large spider would come in late fall and build a huge circular web at the back of my house in the same place. I don't know what the life expectency of some spiders are but I believe he built his web about 3 autumns in a roll. I never bothered this spider or tore down his web. I believe some spiders reassorb their webs because when the spider that was taking up residence here would leave, the web would disappear too.

I never really bother killing flies, unless they are the kind that buzz really loud and keep hitting themselves in the glass making even more noise. There are no flies where I live now anyway.

Mosquitoes are a completely different matter though. Just yesterday I had to deal with them at the hotel, and my apartment, in last year's first months, had a ventilation hole where they would get into the house every day and make my life miserable every night. I lost the squick factor from squishing them between my hand then, although the white wall and ceiling got some unsightly blood stains .(my blood :x) And then came The Device.

It looks like a tennis racket, with a metallic net that is electrified at the push of a button, with a lantern included. It was faster and wider than my palms, required only contact instead of squashing between two hard surfaces, didn't mess up my walls, and I could use it without turning the lights on. It made the next weeks more bearable, until my father helped me install a thin net over the ventilation duct and get rid of that issue.

I forgot about those electronic fly swappers. May have to get one. Would sure have a lot of fun with one of those as long as i didn't put my tongue on it and press the button.

I have a fly swatter and I kill them wiht that. Sprayng them gets the spray all over everything. Just buy you a $1 fly flap from the dollar store. It's much easier.

If you wait for 2 or 3 weeks, the fly will die of OLD AGE.

I don't.

I catch them with my hand and release them outside.

Easy to do. You wait till they land, then with a sweeping motion of your hand (in a cup-like form), move it fast across their avenue of escape (in front of them. They fly into your hand).

No need to kill them.
