It's either this, or that they are maturing and they have grown disgusted with what their greater wisdom has revealed to them.

Modern artists have either become decadent or they have sold out to decadent interests - most of their art deserves nothing more than to be shredded and burned, and then the ashes buried in a landfill.

Most of what passes for art these day is mere artifice, nothing more.
