People that go to court over what breed the dog is should not even keep dogs! That is ridiculously petty, and the conclusion is even worse.
Humans.
yes it is very sad that humans are so able to control the lives of non human animals. how can prestige take precedence over the love of an innocent animal?
i once rescued a cat who lived until it was 24 (wheww....getting sad now) that i found meowing as a kitten under a discarded fridge in a dump. he was almost bald due to a major flea infestation and he was also bleeding in places because of the debauchery of the fleas who dined on him. i think he was recently abandoned by his mother who moved on because he was very weak and could not keep up.
he looked very "ugly" in the eyes of people who i knew who i showed him to after i rescued him, but to me he was the most important life in my world because i felt so sorry for him. he got better and lived a full life until he was 24 and a few years before he died, he looked decrepit and my family members and friends (except for my mother and father) advised me to get him put down.
i had nieces and nephews who were children that were revolted at his appearance and they refused to touch him.
one older sister said "for gods sake mark. put him down"
he always meowed in his crackly old voice at my door for me to let him in so i could cuddle him and he was my best friend in the world but i could not save him in the end.
i can not talk any more about this because it is my fatal weak point.
i am glad you will be the one who cares for your little kitten, and i know you will even when he becomes less than attractive in other people's eyes.

People use "putting down" just to make their own lives easier. It's selfish.
When I was a baby my parents' dog got put down only because of her character, I've always held that against them. Even though I've never remember the dog.

I love cats, we have four cats here :o I love how they're all different from each other xD And so far we've only put our pets down when they were suffering or close to death, we also had a very aggressive hamster, but we didn't put him down and we kept him until he died, which sadly enough already happened when he wasn't even a year old, he got cancer and apparently he didn't come from a very healthy nest :/ He was mean and all that, but still. I liked him anyway, i'm just sorry that he didn't live that long, you know my first hamster actually got over 5 years old :o
But i'm getting sidetracked, i hope you have a great time with Sanjiv :D *i hope i spelled it correctly*

there is too much sadness to be had when i consider some people's attitudes to animals. it is better that i fence off my world and treat the animals who come to me for help as they should be treated. i can not change other peoples brains who think they are superior to animals. i can only cordon my self off from them and i do. i am only one person who has no influence over other peoples thinking.
it is disgusting in my mind that people buy "pets" as gifts for other people who do not want them (eg: at christmas time) and who either abandon them or surrender them to be extinguished. i can love my little mouse friend as much as i can love anything.
i love my mouse more than i love any person. but i have not seen my mouse friend today so i guess i may be in for more grief tomorrow if i do not see him then.
last year, when i was driving a truck (which i no longer do) for my business, i saw a pigeon sitting on the road in the opposite lane going the other way. it seemed quite sick because it just sat there regardless of the danger of being hit by cars. i freaked out because i saw some cars approaching it and the cars did not slow down. the cars i saw did not kill the pigeon because their undercarriage was higher then the pigeons head, and they were able to drive over it without injuring it,
i was appalled that the cars did not slow down and stop to help the pigeon, but nevertheless none of the cars i saw drive over the pigeon killed it.
i immediately did a u turn further down the road when it was possible and i was going to drive back up the hill and park my truck before the pigeon to protect it from traffic and try to rescue it, but by the time i got there (4 minutes later) it was squashed on the road.
everyone who drove up that hill must have seen the immobile pigeon on the road, but none of them stopped or swerved even. they all drove over the pigeon and one of them drove in a way that one of their their tires crushed the pigeon.
i was reinforcedly disgusted with humans severely as a result. why did no one take pity on the pigeon and just delay their day for a few minutes to help it?
that is all i have to say because talking about animals who suffer is very sad to me and i prefer to make my own little world an area where some animals can take safe haven.
goodnight.
Not to over-simplify things, but it seems there's two kinds of people in this world - those who seek power/control and those who seek love/harmony. Some who want pets as an obedient fashion accessory or as a beloved friend.
I dearly miss my cat Muffin - just a typical longhair mutt of a cat. She bonded to me like glue and we learned how to play fun games like hide & seek... I'd hide and she'd call a special meow for me as she searched. When she found me she'd be ecstatic! If I whistled for her, she'd come running, eager for a good petting... the only time she would drool just a little because she loved it so much.
She was bitterly jealous though and hated children... she's slash them with her claws with no provocation or warning. One kid almost lost an eye...
When my dear (ex)wife became pregnant, there was no way I could ever put her down... I simply found a new childless home for her. I hope her new owners loved her as much as me.
B9, I understand you a little better now. I agree with your general distaste for humans... I've known all too many who deserve contempt but are considered respectable... and too many people that deserve respect but receive only contempt (myself included.)

Thanks, BlueMax! I hope they did too. That's how I got one of the best cats I ever had--an apple-head Siamese named Buddy. Buddy's daddy brought him to me when his wife got pregnant and didn't want a cat in the house. The poor guy was so sad to let his cat go, but we took great care of him.

i do not have a general distaste for humans. there are far too many of them, but i do not dislike anyone.
i dislike that the "wheels of industry" roll over far too much of nature. i am glad that cars exist, but as joni mitchell said "they paved paradise, and put up a parking lot".

Awww, what a cute little guy! I'm sure he'll have a great home with you and give you all the love he can.
I feel the same way about animals, they are to be loved, treasured and cherished, not disposed of!

WOOPS! Wrong cat, the owner was asking me if I wanted that one because the person who was going to buy him changed their mind. I'm sticking with my first choice though.
I thought his coat looked a little different!
