weren't you fearful of stepping on sharp things accidentally, and getting lockjaw? that was a real fear among my kinfolk during the depression.

There were more indoor places where people could smoke.

Obesity was less common.

Mobile phones didn't have a color screen.

International phone calls used to take 20 minutes just to connect.

There were no plastic bags.

Internet search engines were not user-friendly.

Cursing/swearing was not acceptable.

Courtesy and good manners were expected in public.

when my late father was in the army [WW2] there was plenty of bad language to go around.

Men did tend to behave differently in different circumstances.

Swearing was not commonly heard to the degree that it is now, in restaurants, stores, for instance....

Bars or all-male places were different.

Back in the 60s you weren't frowned upon for being a Kinks Fan Mod, either.

Either you followed the binary gender code with a smile on your face, or else you were locked up in an insane asylum.

before the digital era, people used to listen to music either with a phonograph or a tape machine. before the walkman, the only portable music was the transister radio. the only way to make phone calls outside of a residence or business, was with a payphone. the only way to send an "instant message" to another person was with a telegram. the only way to see a tv program again was via reruns.

I remember when I had to wait all day to hear a song that I liked came on the radio. They didn't have YouTube or iTunes in the 80s and 90s.

i remember when you could call a radio station for a request, and a real live person [DJ] would answer the phone and chat with you. now it is all computers and phone trees.

Not much has changed in my 31 years.

Well, my dad used to pick up ammunition for me on the way home from work a decade ago (though I never experienced it, you could buy a long arm without any paperwork too when I was a kid, 20 years ago -- what awesome days!). Now you need a license for that (and that). O, and lots more help for kiddies with ASDs at school (nephew has it too). O again, computers were just a geek thing back when I was a kid and teenager; now, normal people use it to socialize more than they do in person (who'd have thought that?).

Saying "That's the bomb!" when something was cool, used to be a popular saying for "hey that's awesome", about 10 years ago. I dun care though, I still say it, even to this day.
