For the same reason I watch The Simpsons and Family Guy - to see evidence that someone else's life might be more screwed up than mine.

I signed up because I needed relationship advice.

I stayed because of my fondness for reading comments/forums. Plus the perspectives are different.

At first I was confused, discombobulated and in denial
then I got involved
later on I just fooled around
then I tried to help out
then I just fooled around
then I tried to help out again
then I just fooled around again
at the moment I am fooling around trying to help out again

I was reading news articles on autism related stuff and I found an article about this site in the Summer of 2004 and I haven't left since.

Not entirely sure, but probably a combination of factors brought me here, including (but not limited to):

1) Being profoundly isolated.
2) Momentary lonliness.
3) Curiosity.
4) Desire to be around similar people.
