Among the dog and cat names I have encountered at the animal shelter I volunteer at are: Thomas, Darren, Pandora, Dora, Andy, Jordan, Ida, Mona, Dave...

One TV artiste here actually named his dog in the same manner as his children, with both Western and Chinese names as well as his family name. This led to the guy interviewing him to ask in jest if the dog has an identity card the way humans do.

I would ROFLMAO if someone had a pet they called "John", or "David" or "Malcolm" or "Paul" etc. That would be too hysterical.

My mom's friend used to have a lot of cats, most of them having human names. She had to put them up for adoption before moving to New Hampshire, though. The human names are Cecilia, Olivia, Claudia, Angelica, Emilio, Sebastian, Sophia, and Delia.

My art teacher had a dog named Viggo. "That is the craziest name for a dog", he giggled, - until one day, he met another man with a dog. My teacher presented Viggo by name, expecting an astonished look in the other mans face, - but he, in turn, calmly presented his dog as --- Hans!

I prefer calling pets 'human' names because I think they're more 'personal'. I also see pets as part of the family, and that they should have the names us humans can be called.
My two dogs are called Maisie and Fern, and my last dog was called Zoe (RIP).

I think some human names, though, are a bit silly for pets.

One of the finches I kept was named Colin. The ridiculous inappropriateness of that never failed to make me snigger.
As a child I (briefly) had a goldfish named Terry, a grass snake named Alan and a rabbit named Trudy.

I actually prefer funny names for pets. My Favorite dog was named Ernie. I keep talking about how I'm going to get a doberman and name it Cornelius. Not really much of a human name but I'll pretend I named it after Cornelius the Centurion.

Anyone read Enid Blyton's Mistletoe Farm books where the local poacher, Sam Twigg, names his dog after the local policeman Mr Potts so he can scold the policeman by addressing his dog?

I heard a man calling out the name, Christopher over again. It turned out that his dog got away. He was calling his dog to come back to him. My family also lived three doors down to a family who's dog was named Casey, in the first neighbourhood that I lived in. My aunt also had two dogs in a row that had peoples' names. The first one was Bridget and the second one was Daisy. Her common law husband had Basset Hound named Fred.
