Sorry if I sounded harsh, didn't mean too.

Yes, I know there are bigger things to worry about but I do care for the safety of animals. I do keep fish, they are in a 60 gallon tank. I know they should be in the wild, but there not, so I can't do anything about that. But what I can do is keep them happy in the environment they are currently in. The main point of this post was about they dying of fish, I want to try and stop fish from being dyed, that's not a bad thing is it?

I don't think it's necessary a good idea either (honestly I don't know much about it). I am sure you intend the best, and I am certainly not intending to make you, or anyone else feel bad or anything (petition away :) )

I guess my general feeling is that it isn't really *that* important. But that's just me.

Well at the moment.. I have a bit of a fish obsession and am trying to learn and help them best I can. If they can't feel pain so what, that does not mean they should die young. I am helping others who need money by supporting them, I just thought it might be good to help animals for a change also, and it does not cost me anything only a bit of time. Well. I will petition away...so far have 71 signatures :P

Fish have no emotions, and lack the ability to feel pain. I am against animal cruelty (I don't even like to crush bugs, I prefer to set them outside gently) but I believe we should concern ourselves with more genuine concerns such as human hunger rather then fish who have no concept of anything.

(source link on info that fish do not feel pain)

That is not a fact. That is one study. According to these people fish do in fact feel pain. http://www.abc.net.au/science/news/stories/s844965.htm

Fair enough. I was not aware of that information and apologize for posting less then the complete facts. I am glad that now members have sources to all the available information.

I found another link at Spiked-Science (link) on this which is on the "fish do not feel pain" side based on the more recent information. It obviously has a perspective of it's own (ie: biases).

Fish do feel pain. If they couldn't feel pain they wouldn't scratch against things when they have flukes or fungus on their bodies. I've also taken a fish out of the tank on wet paper towels and applied a topical fish medicine to a deep wound. The fish didn't squirm until I applied the medicine. It probably stinged just like when humans put iodine on a scraped knee. He felt it.

As for setting tropical fish free its illegal to do so in the States. It wrecks havoc on the natural environment to have foreign species released. Florida and some of the Great Lakes are already having problems related to too many exotic fish being released.

A goldfish needs at least 25 gallons of water for itself to live comfortably. That means if you want two goldfish you need a 50 gallon tank and so on.
