I think that the record of 'curses' that have come true is largely composed of self-fulfilling prophesies and confirmation bias. Only this, and nothing more.

Holy cow, I've never heard of gypsies running around with sprigs of lucky heather and here are two of them!

It's quite a common thing in Britainland, although not as common as it used to be. These days, Nice Friendly Gypsies are usually to be found offering to tarmac your drive at knock-down prices (this is correlated strongly with thefts of tarmac from council highway maintenance vehicles).

Additionally, bad things seem to happen the days after my birthday. Like the Virginia Tech massacre (4/16/2007), the Oklahoma City bombing (4/19/1995) and more recently, the Boston Marathon bombing (4/15/2013). People of WP, I feel like I am a poison on the world. :(

Or maybe it is one of the 300,000 other people born on that day (or the 19 million who share your birthday each year) who are causing bad things to happen...err...a few days after your birthday. Or maybe bad things happen all the time?

when I was younger and dumber, out of desperation I went to a psychic who told me I was cursed and that I had to pay her $$$ to lift the curse... I believe she was right but that she was also wrong for trying to take advantage of my naiveté.

Did you know that the most likely day for a Friday the 13th to fall is in August?

I read it in a book of whacky & bizzare facts when I was a child.

And no I do not believe in curses. My personal opinion is that a curse only has as much power than the person that believes it.

I choose the actor. I observe NT's. I listen to their socializing. I practice it, so in social situations I can just emulate/mimic what is expected.
It isn't natural for me, but it enables me to "fit in".
It is VERY tiring and draining, but at least we can appear like them even though it is an act. Like being on the stage.
They can't see it is emulation, and so we are accepted.

then what would you call it if you met a person who had a perpetual black cloud of crap-collecting bad luck over his head that he was clueless about removing? there are some folks so far down they cannot see any way up and out. there are folks who simply cannot get a break in life. if that is not a curse I don't know what is.

I think that can seem like a curse but I do not believe it's related to magic or anything but rather the person just got a raw deal because of what they were born into, their genetic makeup causes them to have problems, environmental factors, choices they make ect.

My sister-in-law was born on September 11th. I think it's just a coincidence. :)

With my return home from Hawaii, I have decided that I DO NOT believe in curses anymore.

I'd think that I was either dreaming or trapped in a Max Fleischer cartoon ... maybe both ...

I think a curse can ride in more swiftly on the wings of karma. In the ways of witchcraft maybe if karma is justified and your thoughts toward that person are justified because they did something f****d up...maybe the threefold rule doesn't apply then? Cause they deserved it? And karma had it set anyway....
