A Russian athlete, Elvira Ozolina, was so disappointed by her performance in a gymnastics competition that she shaved her head. A Japanese wrestling team also shaved their heads after losing their matches in Olympic competition.

My ex girlfriend always shaved her head but to 7/8" length. Some women (and men) have nice head shape and can get by with that look. Neither Britany nor my ex are in that group!

I think Brit's gone mental and seriously needs some help. Will she jump off a cliff next week? At first I thought it was a publicity gimic, but then considering all the weird things she's been up to lately I think she's just flipped.

I interpret it is a sign of frustration. Perhaps she is recognizing the hollowness of celebrity and her physical idolatry. My mom once told me that that's why Sinead O'Connor shaved her head, because women were supposed to have long hair in order to be cherished and admired.

Go her.

I thought Sinead O'Connor shaved her head because she is a lesbian? Well you're moms words will shock all the lesbians who started shaving their heads after Sinead did.

I've once had my hair 1/2" long and 1/4" on the sides. Is that considered shaved? I did it cause I like the feeling of it.

I'd like to shave my head sometime...I've never done it. I'm kinda curious what would it be like to feel the sun and the wind directly on my scalp.

I agree the press is giving her too much attention. All that publicity must be difficult to bear...

I thought Sinéad O'Connor was beautiful; the only thing I didn't like about her appearance was all that stubble on her head (thought it was unsightly):

If a woman is going to shear her hair off that close: I think she should just go all the way with it, and lather it up and take a razor blade to it like this woman:

Mucho better, in the opinion of this sexist creep trekkie here. :D
