I really like Greek foods - Spanikopita (spinach in phyllo dough), Stuffed Tomatoes, Moussaka! and there is a dish I had over there with large fava beans in tomato sauce that was amazing, but I don't remember what it was called and haven't been able to find anything comparable in the States. Not too crazy about the crunchy cookies they make that taste like licorice which for me is a combining of unpleasant texture with unpleasant flavor.
My standard for testing out a new Mexican restaurant is the Chicken Enchiladas Verde with sour cream since they are awesome when done right. And Gorditas and Guacamole. Some stores carry a crunchy cookie with what to me is a very off or bland flavor. And I like Rice Milk, but I don't really like the Horchata ricemilk-water stuff.
For Italian, Fettucini Alfredo, Manicotti, and Stromboli. I have not experienced any crunchy cookie with a licorice-type flavor when in Italy. Ooh, just had a image of Marzipan in Austria flash through my mind, though, and like that. Tangent, sorry.
With Indian food, I go for the Khada Bhindi (Okra Curry), tomato sambar, Samosas, and Naan bread. Usually I like the Idli (rice dumplings), but some of them go too heavy on the fennel and that's when it gets unpleasant. I'm ok with the straight fennel seeds for some reason, though.
