I really wish I could build a custom car.

I'd use the front suspension from a Honda Prelude BB6 and the rear suspension from a Ford Focus (1st gen) on a custom tube frame with a roughly 2.5 meter wheelbase and go from there. Since I'm a Honda fanboy it'd have a K24 driving all four wheels through a X-trac 633 6 speed sequential transmission.

Not sure if I'd want to stick with an N/A engine or turbo it, if I turbo it I want an anti-lag system so I don't have to worry about lag (and, anti-lag backfires are awesome, every time you lift off the gas you get <BANGBANGBANG> from the ALS)

Beyond that, give me two bucket seats, a roll cage, a/c and somewhere to stick a bottle of NOS (the drink, not nitrous oxide). Then it gets Integra/DC2 based bodywork so that I'm not driving around in a car with no body. If all goes to plan it should be around 1000kg, have 250-350hp and have the cure for the common commute.

how smoothly would it ride over rough and broken/pot-holed pavements?

With the right shocks and springs it should be decent. With the shocks and springs I'd specify it'd probably pretty rough-riding over really bad pavement or gravel, but not outside of what you might expect in a car that gets both track and highway use. I live in the country and love hooning on gravel so I'd need to make sure it's not too hard.

There'd probably be a fair bit of fooling around with spring and shock rates until I have it perfect.

Sadly my knowledge of working on/building cars is very much theoretical with pathetically little practical knowledge behind it. I can plan stuff like this all day, ask me to actually see it through to completion and I'm frigged in the backseat of a Volkswagen (a very uncomfortable place). :P

I prefer the luxury brands. Used to have a jet-black 2010 Hyundai Genesis and loved driving it, at least until it got totaled on the highway. I think for my next car I may get the BMW 3 Series Sedan. Very nice car to drive around in.

from what I've read, the best riding cars are the citroen ds and the Mercedes 560sel [which used a variant of the citroen hydraulic suspension technology]. I would be in hog heaven if I got to drive either one.

If I ever retired my AMC Eagle to collector car status and needed a DD, I've had an interest in a Crown Victoria Police Interceptor and would consider one. They've got beefier components not available on civilian models and I think that would be a neat car to make a sleeper hot rod out of on a budget. How is it? Was yours used and abused in it's service time or was it well cared for?

Mine was very well taken care of the tranny is slipping a little though but it just needs a fluid top off other then that besides the heater core i will be replacing the car is fine! Its a nice daily driver and does turn a lot of heads gas mileage isnt bad on the highway 25 mpg city about 18-20 though but it will eat gas like an Irish man drinks whiskey if you race in it I found out the hard way after I raced and smoked a BMW on the highway lol had to fill up on gas.
