Hi Raleigh. In the jargon, as you probably know, this is called a 'process' addiction. Try googling "process addiction - how to recover" and it might turn up something useful (or not). 12 steps is a good programme for sure, and you have already attained step 1, which is a very positive start and good sign that recovery can happen for you and that you can make it happen. All the best for the journey. We always learn something valuable during recovery processes that we did not know before, and may have never known but for experiencing recovery.

As a matter of general interest, this list of process addictions of various types is surprisingly wide, and thought-provoking:

I agree iOS is ridiculously addictive. I would never sit at a PC for the amount of time I spend on the iPad.

I wasn't expressing doubt, I believe you. I like these little recovery mantras:

First things first

The only way out is through

Recovery is an inside job

One step at a time

We do recover

The point of power is always in the present

Also, a quote from someone I also like (possibly Winston Churchill:

"when you are going through Hell, the most important thing is to just keep going"

Have faith in yourself. Things will change for you because you have that intrinsic power within your deeper self to bring about change. You have done it before. You can do it again.

When I'm going through hell, I tend to stop. Because that eliminates the circuitous route to the place I'm gonna end up anyway.

Really, I know I'm avoiding examining certain things in my life.
But what is the point of examining that which can't be changed?
What is the point of starting anything?
Recover for what?

Rightly or wrongly, I get a feeling that you are perhaps sliding into a state of emotional starvation, there isn't enough positive input from others in your life and you are suffering from emotional malnutrition.

That's just an intuition of mine Raleigh so if it is wrong, sorry for the error.

Maybe one day there really will be a chat program with no syntax whatsoever. I think Raleigh might like that too...

Thanks, Drawyer.

Overcoming a WP addiction by posting on WP? Hmmm. That could work lol.
You may have noticed I'm not 100% serious.
I do spend way too much time on here though.

Want to go to the extreme? Put a time limit on your router which will automatically kick you offline after a predetermined set of time, and then set a password using a randomly generated password online copy paste it to confirm the password, and then add something else to your clipboard so that password is gone forever. That way even you won't know the password.

Step 2, find something else to occupy that void. It is easier to replace a habit with something else than it is to break a habit.

^ I used to have the router switch off at 9pm.
Then I changed it to 10 pm.
Then I thought, "Why would I ever want my router to switch off?" and disabled it.
The router is linked to a remote control and in theory I could switch it off at any time.
In theory.

It's a good idea but I suspect not knowing the password would induce a panic attack.

Not sure what to fill the void with.
I used to be a lot more active.
Now I couldn't be bothered.

I need a metaphorical pizza-with-the-lot.
And a cream doughnut.
And a double-shot mocha with chocolate sprinkles.

We'd better fill it up then. Let tank fillers into your life, and boot out the tank emptiers! Here's a hug: (Raleigh)!
You are a very well-liked member of WP and I am one of your constant admirers. Put that in your emotional tank to start the filling process.. all that liking.
