They're quite poor predators when solitary, which most feral/wild dogs are; sometimes, if in a pack, they'll do a little better as they'll take farm animals/pets, but they're still skinny and poor looking when you find/trap them.

Whereas a solitary cat will depopulate an area in short order and move on, thriving the whole time (if they have no predator). There's a reason why they beef up when feral/wild.

Cats are very good predators which don't have an off switch.

When I was younger, I had a pack of hunting dogs, sometimes one of them or all of them escaped sometimes for days and days, they were skilled hunters. Every time I brought them back home, they were healthy and had a full belly. I can even tell you stories of breeders who had a pregnant dog escape to give birth to puppies in the wild, inside a den. And stories of shepherds who shot a "wolf" who actually was a feral dog looking like a wolf. Primitive breeds, terriers, sighthounds are born wildlife killers, it's in their genetics, nothing like modern pet dogs.

I like dogs that are friendly - although I don't appreciate their friendliness much when they get their dirty paws all over my pants - but many dogs scare me because of their large size, barking, and general aggressive behavior. My grandfather was once attacked by a dog when he was just out walking, and he suffered a concussion. I have also had some bad experiences with such dogs in the past. And the worst thing is when their owners make dog attack victims so be the worst people in the world, that it's all their own fault the dog attacked them and are all like "Oh my sweet little baby would never hurt anyone", or they laugh and bully you when you show fear of their dogs.
