The problem I have with spicy food, and really anything acidic at all, is that it bothers my stomach and throat. I have really bad gastric reflux and I suspect I have a peptic ulcer. I also get nasal drips all the time. Tis a shame.
Do you take anything for it? I have GERD(Gastroesophageal Reflux) & I take Pepcid before each meal. I cut a 20mg pill in half & take one piece before breakfast & the other before lunch & I take a whole 20mg before supper. I have a prescription for it & I think it may be double the strength that you can buy over the counter but I'm not sure. I also occasionally take Protonix which is a Proton-pump inhibitor when my GERD is acting up or when I'll eat certain food that can really aggravate it. I also been on Prilosec for a month which is another PPI & it also helped but it may of been a stronger strength that the over the counter version but I'm not sure.

I've been prescribed proton pump inhibitors twice and they give me chest aches. I usually use 150mg ranitidine tablets, sometimes two of them, whenever it starts acting up. It doesn't really help though.
I heard of Carafate being used for acid reflux. It doesn't reduce the acid but it can form a coating that can protect your body from the acid. It's used for ulcers to. I think it may be safer than PPIs.

Oh I like spices> peppers, mustard, curry and what else... A friend of mine, who is a psychologist, told me I'm mad after I described her eating twelve jalapeno peppers stuffed with cheese and baked. So I have an unofficial diagnosis of madness, hihi! But actually it's a bit strange and somewhat anoying, when people shout that I'm hurting myself with all those spices, but I actually can't explain to them that it's only a joy and quite a big one. I dont feel sick, my stomach takes the stuff well and I actually really enjoy the feeling in my mouth when eating spices. After eating those twelve jalapenos I became quite serious, as it wasn't that hard to take them in and it really made me wonder what's wrong with high tolerance towards edible hellfire. I have asked some other aspies here about prefference of spices and got mostly a positive responce, so yeah, to me it seems, that baring all our sensitivities, there is a propencity to like spicy foods in amongst aspies.

I love spicy food, I'm another one of those people that pour hot sauce especially sriracha on everything. I honestly don't find a lot of food other people find spicy to be hardly spicy at all to me, like me and my mom can't eat the same things at all.

One thing I don't like tho is the horseradish type of spiciness which I can't even put in my mouth without gagging.

I LOVE spicy foods----unfortunately, I can't eat things as hot as I'd like, anymore, due to gastro problems----I used to put hot sauce on / peppers in pretty much ANYTHING. My favorite dishes are chili, chicken and peppers, curried chicken, and seafood (crab or shrimp sandwiches or salads, for instance) with LOTS of "Old Bay". I can still eat some stuff, I just have to turn it down a notch or two, and eat a piece of bread first.

I like the spicies. But it has to have spice and taste. I dislike foods that are all heat and no taste, like the fake horseradish wasabi you get at commercial sushi trains. Ick. :eew:
