Why do cars have speedometers that go up to at least 130 mph

For the same reason that some concert amplifiers go up to "11."

Ask John Elder Robison about such things. He knows everything that can be known about cars and amps. :D

He is fun to chat with! Unfortunately, I didn't learn until much later that he and our own Alex Plank love to go target shooting. I wish I had known that when they were in Utah last year for an autism conference.
