Do you give blood?

I give blood - I also have the popular O negative type; and have my bronze award so am very proud (my parents both reached silver). Unfortunately I am sometimes rejected because my blood is thin in iron - I used to remember to eat spinach the day before, then used Mum's iron tablets, then when I married, red wine. Now it is a pint of guinness (still married but I can have the pint at lunchtime on my way to the donor site)- it helps.

My blood is full of anti-epilepsy medication 24/7, so it's not the best blood to use.

I also hate needles.

Huh... they never complained about my anti-epilepsy drugs... or my antidepressants... or any of the other members of my morning or evening cocktails.

I think in the UK they have some very strict rules.

I know they can seperate out alot of the stuff, and seperate it all anyway (into plasma, platelets etc.)

I'm not so much afraid of needles as I am of seeing objects entering skin. So the whole thought of something by choice entering my skin I can't get past. I only have blood drawn @ drs offices when I have to.

I feel exactly the same way. I'd probably faint if they tried to stick a needle in one of my veins. On the bright side, I'm not likely to develop a heroine dependency

That's how I look at things...... I won't ever abuse drugs intravenously. Hell, any drugs, unless you count caffeine and/or sugar, which I don't.

I answered the poll "regularly" because I used to do it a lot - have 3-gallon pin, know I gave more than that

I can't do it anymore because of all the medications I take (and the pot I smoke) :lol:

I definitely recommend it for those who don't suffer any ill effects from it... doesn't hurt much, if at all, and it's needed so badly.

I probable couldn't because:

a) I'm on epilepsy meds
b) I probably might faint if I don't eat enough food on the day of donating, and fainting is not pleasent

I understand that the blood is needed and all, but I have a major problem with sharp objects being pointed at me. If I HAVE to get blood taken for some reason, or I HAVE to get a shot, I will tolerate it. But there's no way I'm volunteering to have it done.

Oh yeah... and I just barely weigh enough anyway.
