Does anybody here have a hard time sounding enthusiastic?

Even when I put in real emotion, I still sound like bad voice acting.

This is me with all feelings in real life . I can't express anything without it sounding really fake .

I think you're very expressive, Stampy! As Kraftie says, you are the real deal! You're smart, a nice person and a fellow cat lover. You're also very understanding about my unusual interests.

You just might be the type, Stampy, that people "grow to love"---once they get to know you.

People usually don't like me too much at first---but they usually grow to like me more as they get to know me.

For me, it varies. Some people like me straight away, apparently I come across as honest and approachable. Usually I will make jokes about myself, which tends to put people at ease. Other times, people say I'm "hard to read", but then there are times when people say that I'm actually really easy to read, so it depends who you ask.

It can be interesting to find out what kind of impression you leave on people, usually people say I come across as "quirky" but when asked why, they just shrug and say "I dunno, there's just something about you I guess".

Usually when people say I'm hard to read it's because I don't tend to sound enthusiastic about things, and I guess that sometimes comes across to people as withdrawn and uninterested. But usually people find me easy to read since I'm pretty bad at hiding my emotions when I want to. If I'm unimpressed or disgusted but trying to keep a happy face for politeness' sake, I usually fail at that. People tend to find it funny because apparently I have a very expressive face, so some of my expressions can come across as over the top and humorous. At school people used to ask me to do expressions for certain emotions, and they'd burst out laughing when I did.

I wouldn't say my voice is flat, it has emotion in it. Although, at school my voice was quite monotonous but that could've just been due to my low mood at the time. I remember sitting down at school one time and a group of girls asked if I was texting someone "special" and I replied that I was just texting my dad, but they got freaked out because they couldn't tell if I was lying or not and one said "I really have no idea if she's being honest, she's so monotone that you can't tell- it's kinda creepy". Then they all left.

Now that my mood has improved and my social skills are better, I'm way less monotone and actually pretty expressive when I talk. However, I'm still pretty bad at sounding enthusiastic as it just ends up coming across as sarcastic. People that know me well know this though, and usually explain for me "Ah, don't mind her- she never gets excited about anything- I wouldn't take it personally", to which I usually make some silly joke to.



Ah, so you like cats, Stampy? I do as well, in fact I'm wearing a top with a cat on it whilst writing this. I own a lot of clothes with pictures of cats on, I'm not even gonna admit to how much grumpy cat stuff I have, haha.

If I am feeling enthusiastic, I have a hard time hiding it. My older brother, on the other hand, speaks in such a low monotone that when he called my parents to tell them he and his wife were going to Las Vegas a few years ago, he sounded as excited as he would if he had called to say he was just driving down to the local grocery store. My parents and I tend to poke fun at how he talks.

Thank you so much IstominFan! I think you're the "real deal" too . Don't worry about "unusual" interests- I have a few of those myself! Even my "normal" interests like AGT are really intense, so people can see them as unusual. I hope you are having a nice day!

I'm supposedly really "hard to read" according to some people as well. I come across as quite serious in person. I love cats, though! Especially Stampy Cat .

I have a difficult time sounding sincere even though I usually am.

If I sound unenthusiastic concerning it, then I am not interested in drizzling time away pretending that it has any resonance to me, that's just how it's going to be. I will flat out state it's not something I have much to offer on. I do however have a problem regulating the quantity of feverish jostle and jolt that I emit through the sentences and accompanying actions when discussing items of actual interest to me! I'd rather be passionate about things that matter to me than waste too much energy pretending I care to much extent about things I don't care about. There's a difference between finding someone else's passion interesting and having that same weight of fizzle invested in it yourself, I have a great love for recognizing the passion of someone else and appreciating it, but when it comes down to discussing stuff where neither party actually CARES about the topic, screw it, cut to the chase.

Perhaps we ought to have a club with a T-shirts that have slightly excited slogans on like "Woo, go team- I guess".

Interestingly, I talked about this with a friend of mine, (apparently people think he can be a bit monotone too) and he said he didn't find me to be lacking enthusiasm at all, and I didn't find him to be monotone (likewise, he didn't think I was monotone either, despite other people sometimes referring to us as such).

Makes me wonder...are monotone people less likely to realise when others are being monotonous? Hmm...what do you think?
