While CDs have declined, vinyl record selections in stores have increased. The local Barnes & Noble store recently added more shelves of records. Of course the thing about records is, they're not portable. Someone is not going to be jogging around listening to records.

I went into my local Walmart and I bought - don't laugh - 4 Beatles CDs for $20. I agree that CDs are going by the wayside in brick and mortar stores. You can still buy a vast number of them on Amazon and Barnes & Nobel.

Most CDs in non-specialist shops now tend to be retro compilations and the current Top 40. I have several 70s compilations and a couple of 80s ones. I couldn't go into Sainsburys or Asda and buy, say, the entire T. Rex back catalogue. Or even that of something less obscure like The Beatles as you say.

If I'm looking for more obscure artists, I go into a specialist shop like HMV or an independent one.
