some schools are different. and follow nontypical schedules. my elementary school was a year-round school where summer vacation was only about 6 weeks long starting at the end of may. so by the time the "end of june" rolled around there was about two weeks left until those year round schools would start again. which is a reasonable time to air those ads i think.

we got several breaks in winter and spring too. don't freak.

extended summer break is really only a thing because of rural areas, where summer was the most productive season on the farm and kids needed the time off to work on the farm or ranch.

hardly anyone does that now, at least compared to the early 1900s so it's not really a consideration. it cuts down on summer slide too.

i remember my first "real" summer break after leaving elementary and going into the secondary middle/high school system that follows the traditional schedule. it felt like it would go on FOREEEEEEEEEEVER

I think it has more to do with logistics than marketing. They fill the containers with stuff in China--when they are full they ship the stuff over to the USA. And, it is better to ship stuff earlier rather than later--who wants to buy Christmas stuff after Christmas if there is a strike or some other event that Walmart has no control over. And when the stuff gets to the USA they immediately put the stuff in stores, so they can send those containers back to China for more stuff.

You don't think they have warehouses to store stuff, do you?

One of these days shops will just have an all-year Christmas section.

How did we survive in the past without this situation?

It's still too early. I feel like it makes Christmas less special and I'm not really that into Christmas.

Woolworth used to had stock rooms and warehouses. But, people wanted lower prices, so companies with more efficient business practices took business away from them. Woolworth was unable to maintain customer service expectations and compete with cheaper companies.
