I once read a Ramona book where Ramona and one of her friends visit an old lady, who told them that when she was a child she would make stilts out of empty coffee cans and string. So Ramona and her friend decided to make their own stilts, and then they'd start walking down the sidewalk while singing 99 Bottle of Beer, as a way of keeping track of how far they got before they fell down or the strings broke. Ramona's parents wanted her to sing something else, but she said she didn't know any other songs that were long enough, and Beezus was really worried everyone would think they were a bunch of beer-guzzlers.

I thought the same thing! I used to love the Beverly Cleary books! Hard to believe she's 102 years of age! Wow!
