Like all spirits, human or supernatural ghosts, you'll get good or bad. They sense fear! if they're harmless, you will feel at ease and so will others around it. If people fear it or feel an eerie presence at a certain area, then avoid it! as it has a bad omen. Depends also on your vibration, if you're positive, you'll attract positive! if you're down, you'll attract negative. They sense fear so try not to be scared, they'll soon go!
If they're good, they'll visit you no matter what, if you're in a bad place, the negative ones come and prey on vulnerability. Also be wary on those that only come at night in your room and sleep near you, incase they're a succubus or an incubus. Good luck and don't think about it and be positive! you'll be ok.

I once saw a ghost which was a young man smiling at me as I woke up. Felt so real. He was beautiful, shining and made me feel at peace. Friendly ghost?

On that note - I was suffering severely from insomnia with 3/4 hrs sleep per night, if any. so hallucinations are more likely than ghosts!
At least a few times while sleeping I've woken up to see a shadowy figure standing over my bed pinning me down making it so I could barley breath. I was very afraid at the time but I never thought it was a ghost or the Grim Reaper when I got up. I knew it was sleep paralysis caused most likely my my troubled emotional state & being single & hating sleeping alone by myself at the time. It's one of the many reasons why I'm better off in a relationship with a girlfriend I'm living with.

If ghosts where/are real, they would just be people still.
I wouldn't be scared of them. I would think they are neat.

I feel the same way. They would simply be humans living in another state of being.

Same. My curiosity of the unknown over-rides my fear of the unknown.

That's just a Fnordism.

There are too many reported encounters to ignore, yet no definitive proof. One day we may have proof that stands the test.

They have "ghost tours" of some of the old historic buildings in our city. They're a bit expensive so I haven't been on one. They're led by a guy who's a nephew (or grand-nephew)of the late crime writer Agatha Christie.

As I have stated I actually have experienced what I believe to be a genuine ghost encounter. I believe that my aunt's little boy is still in her house making noises and playing around.

the things I have seen, others have seen when they were with me. we all know that we saw something anomalous with no obvious physical explanation.

My hubby has an obsession with the supernatural and is convinced that ghosts are real.

Well they should be afraid of them because they are not really ghost but something more sinister pretending to be a ghost.

ever had a cat just stare at something in mid-air, its eyes tracking whatever invisible thing's motion across the room? or a dog that did the same thing?

My cat Friday will chase invisible things around my bedroom and sometimes stare at things outside my bedroom window that aren't there. It's freaky. :|

things that are not in THIS dimension but across the veil which some animals seem to be able to pierce, as well as some humans, especially when they are very young or close to death.

What veil? WHICH dimension?

We can't even detect "Dark Matter" without complex calculations and long-term observations of normal matter, so detecting alleged ghosts would take more than the antics of a housecat, a child, or an elderly person in the grips of senility.

Sorry, I know that this is a speculative thread, but I can't help wondering why the only "evidence" for the existence of ghosts is purely subjective experience and interpretations of animal behavior...

Besides, if the ghost of my late father was to appear to me, I might be too busy trying to punch it to ask it anything worthwhile...
