Sure, why not?

Why spend good money on a car that will be stolen and auto insurance that never pays out?

Why not spend a small fraction of that cost on Lyst, Uber, public transportation, or even bicycling?

I don't know how it looks in USA but here bikes are also trendy.

I hear that public transportation is also very popular in Europe, even in the country. Hear in the States, there is hardly any public transportation outside the big cities, and almost none connecting the smaller cities.

If I was to use public transportation to get to work, a one-way trip would take up to 2-1/2 hours, and I'd have to walk the last mile or so from the bus stop to my office. By car, it takes about 35 minutes, door-to-door.

Yes, public transport is almost everywhere here. For long time most people here couldn't afford cars so the whole infrastructure has been constructed with this in mind.
To my work:
Public transport: 45 min
Bike: 45 min
Car: 45 min (traffic, more in rush hours, less in the night)
