Feeling a bit down.
Bronte?
LOTSW. I am almost sure some of the characters were based on actual people here in Wales. For example, Aunty Wainwright. In Llanelli there used to be a street of small shops. The one was an elderly lady who ran an antiques and curios shop. She was so quick whitted and shrewd that we would go in to sell something and come out with something else we didn't actually want! It was soo funny that we used to challenge each other to see if we could go in without buying anything, and anyoe who didn't know her shop... We would send them in out of curiosity to see what she would sell them! Now we heard that quite a few TV producers and others came to live in nearby Carmarthen, so it is possible they did get to hear about her. Maybe just a coincidence? Is the shop still there? Sadly no, but there is another story about that. For years the local council wanted to knock the row of shops down as there were plans to re-develop the area. They bought out shop at a time and demolished them but hers remained. They couldn't aford to buy her out! It was only a small shop which was also where she lived. Two or three bedrooms upstairs and the front downstairs room was her shop type of thing. It remained like that for some 15 years before she passed away (She must have been approaching her 90's). They bought the business and the shop from her son after she passed away!
Some other local characters would have fit well in LOTSW... Maybe I would as well! Haha! My dad would...
I have a friend who looks like Howard and dresses like Compo. Never forget attending a wedding and he wanted to come. We found him a suit from somewhere. My mum asked "Have you got socks?" "Yes" he said. We went to the wedding and my mum looked down... Well. He had socks... What was left of socks. They were just the elasticated bits at the top with a few bits of material hanging off.

We quite often play that game if there's a little group of us out for a walk. It's usually me that ends up being Compo - if you sent me to the barber's and put me in a posh tailor-made suit, I'd still manage to look scruffy!
