Think again. It is not the government bureaucracy that would enforce a quarantine; it is the armed military.

But how come the world wasn't freaking out as bad as what they are with this coronavirus? I remember the Ebola crisis in 2014 but I don't remember there being all these over the top precautions about it like there is with this.

Historically Ebola has been so deadly that outbreaks 'burn out' quickly, people don't spend a week spreading Ebola without showing symptoms, they quickly show symptoms and get very sick and usually die. It's easy to control the spread of something like that, compared to something where lots of people who get it don't show much in the way of symptoms.

Well then why all this fuss and lockdowns and stuff?

Basically they were worried it was progressing similar to SARS or MERS and wanted to contain it, it was only later that realized they had failed and that it was popping up in pockets that they couldn't trace the origin of.

They can't act in accordance to an understanding of the problem they don't yet possess.

A woman at work keeps on coughing and is a non-smoker. I feel paranoid because she went to Poland the weekend before last, and although I haven't heard of any cases of coronavirus in Poland (though I could be wrong), it could have still spread at airports where people from China or Italy have come from and who have brought it to the UK. I know this woman has been coughing for about 3 weeks now (before she went to Poland and before many cases were reported in the UK), but I'm still paranoid as she seems to be coughing more this week than before. I don't know if she's been checked or not, as I feel rude if I ask her, but if she does have the coronavirus then it's a little late to isolate herself now, as she's been coming into work all this time.

What gets me is that Trump is blaming the democrats & the liberal media for hyping it but there's actually vaccines out for this virus or at least in the works that Trump wants to allow the pharmacy companies to sell for as high a price they want. I'm not sure what to believe about all the hype but I don't think there's any known cases in my state yet. Thankfully I'm not traveling to go visit my parents any time soon so I don't think I need to worry about this virus.

There are no currently available vaccines against the COVID-19 virus.

Under the Trump administration, public health care funding was gutted in his first 2-1/2 years in office -- the goal being no government-subsidized health care or "Obamacare" -- thus severely reducing the CDC's budget. This resulted in our best immunologists and virologists getting the sack and/or seeking employment elsewhere. Now we need them, and they're just not available.

Price-gouging in the health-care industry is nothing new. However, Trump's policies encourage profit-taking over public health. Now, with a pandemic threatening our lives, Trump is scrambling to find enough funding and qualified people to get on top of the COVID-19 crisis.

Trump's assignment of Pence to lead the fight against COVID-19 makes no sense in light of Pence's own mis-handling of the HIV crisis in his homestate.

Of course, Trump is blaming Democrats and the Media -- anyone but himself and his policies -- for the panic and lack of treatment for the virus, when it is obvious that he is fumbling the ball on this one.

In any case, a cure and/or a vaccine against the COVID-19 virus is at least 18 months in the future -- a time when Trump may no longer be in office, and his replacement can take the credit instead.

^ I think Trump appointing Pence as the Covid-19 czar makes perfect sense. That's one of the things Trump is known for doing: being very public and official about pointing person X to problem Y. If problem Y isn't fixed, then it's person X's fault, not Trump's. It probably comes partly from his business background. As a CEO, you appoint leaders below you to do certain things. If they're unsuccessful, you fire them. Only in government is it common for incompetence to continue or even get promoted.

I saw something today that a strategist believes Trump will dump Pence and run with Nikki Haley as VP in this next election. First female VP if he's reelected. so his appointment of Pence is likely by design.

It could be that she has an unrelated lung problem that causes her to cough so often. However from data available at this time this would also means she is at higher risk. But it might be a prudent action to inform those at your work who are responsible for health related issues about her so they can ask her.

“Globally, about 3.4% of reported COVID-19 cases have died,” Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the director general of the World Health Organization, said at a press briefing in Geneva. That’s more than previous estimates that hovered around 2% and the influenza fatality rate of less than 1%.

Then they'll probably put all of us at work in quarentine for 2 weeks. This is what worries me more than getting the actual virus.

I'm getting a bunch of emails petitioning & contacting US elected officials related to this virus threat. I'll post the differnt 1s but I'm very behind with my email lately so I'll just post this one for now.

Quick signature: Big Pharma wants to profit off coronavirus.

Public, taxpayer dollars have led the way in developing treatments and vaccines for the coronavirus, but, President Trump and Health and Human Services Secretary Azar are considering giving pharmaceutical corporations monopolies to sell them at whatever price maximizes profits.

It is that actual stated policy, or a fear you have? Because at my work place as of now, if you are sick they might ask that you just go home and take sick leave.

I think one reason is because in case it gets really bad, politicians and elected offcials don't want the public saying they did not take enough precautions.

I think one thing that kept the swine flu from being worse is that it started in April towards the end of flu season.

I remember the Swine Flu being an epidemic all through the summer of 2009.
Also I've had the flu in the summer before. It was a hot night in June, but I spent it shivering under the blankets and I was very ill.

But hopefully by the summer this new virus will quieten down just like all the others.

Sign the petition: Denounce Trump robbing health programs for the poor to pay for coronavirus response

The Trump Administration is woefully unprepared for the coronavirus pandemic (due to his own fault), so they are stealing $139 million from programs that help the poor—and zero from his border wall.

https://www.dailykos.com/campaigns/peti ... n-for-this

Tell Trump to make a coronavirus vaccine available for the public.

The U.S. government is responsible for the vast bulk of funding of research on coronavirus. Now it must make sure a vaccine is affordable and available to all.

It's not easy to avoid. Tonight at work I've been disinfecting the inside of all the buses in the bus garage where I work, but come tomorrow morning the germs will be back on everything again when people are getting on after touching money to pay the bus fare, even though the coronavirus isn't in my city yet you still never know who's getting on the buses. And no matter how much they stress all these precautions on the media, you can't predict that everyone is going to follow those rules. And the virus is spreading as we speak. So how can you really avoid it apart from wash your hands every other minute of the day?
