I wonder if that's the origins of the term hokey, as in cheesy or excessively tame, since the word's meaning is basically analogous (at least way closer than either of my synonyms) to that feeling you get when you hear someone use a minced oath to replace a word that already isn't considered cursing. it is a minced oath of sorts. rocky wasn't the first to use it. but he seems the last to have used it on tv.
