i went to senior prom in HS, 2015. with a freshman.... (she was 15)
it sucked. then i, she, our friend and her date went to her place watched pulp fiction and that was 100x better (i still haven't seen that movie since then)

oh well.

but anyway i know people who hold grudges because of s**t that happened a quarter of a century ago, in their HS. can't imagine the energy it takes to keep a grudge for that long.

Sometimes it's a grudge.
Sometimes it's an unresolved trauma.
Sure, growing up should mean getting over both.

It bothers me how much degrading there is on this thread. Regarding what you all are saying about people being upset about the pandemic, here are some things that are hard on people:

Graduations. All HS seniors had waited all their lives for this. A lot of them saw their older siblings walk across the stage and think "I can't wait 'til I get to do that". Not to mention the party, where many people come to YOUR event. And then 2 months before it's all supposed to happen, something so unforseen and so messed up happens and they all have to live the rest of their life with the fact that their graduation was a "we have to settle for this" type of thing.

Couple's who aren't able to see each other. Long distance couples. I'm sure there's a couple out there who have known each other for a long time and were finally going to meet in person, only for what has happened to happen. Other couples who can't meet up, just as it seems as if they have finally met the love of their life that they have waited for for so long.

Fathers who aren't able to be there when their own child is born. Mothers and fathers who aren't able to hold their newborns for weeks after they are born.

Younger kids who are upset that they couldn't have a birthday party, or aren't able to play organized baseball this summer.

8th graders who's highly anticipated class trip to Washington DC got cancelled.

Of course I know that many people are dying too. It feels messed up that people are dying from a disease that shouldn't exist. But that doesn't mean other things aren't sad/heartbreaking either.

Hmmm...
Grow up, shut up and get over the fact that some people won't grow up, shut up and get over things? :chin:
Add as many levels of recurrence as you need

D'you mean things like some random member getting banned for flouting the rules?  Yeah, that makes sense!

This is absolutely true, there are plenty of things that are legitimate reasons to be upset about quarantine. But there are also people who complain about trivial things related to it. There is a big difference between your examples and someone complaining that they can’t go hang out at the bar with their friends (who they still get to socialize with by phone, video chat, etc). It’s only the latter I take issue with. But very good point to mention.

Yes, the pandemic has given all of us a lot to complain about, and some of those complaints are valid.

But complaining about every little inconvenience when those inconveniences may save your life is like someone in a lifeboat complaining that water is too wet.  If that person ever falls overboard and is eaten by sharks, those who remain in the boat will be comforted for the loss by the relative peace and quiet.

Stuck in a lifeboat with a buncha uncomfortable strangers who don't give a damn about YOUR discomfort?  Grow up, shut up, and get over it already!

There was an adult member on another forum I use that used to complain about minor infractions all the time even though they skirted around the rules themselves. They used to attack members then report them when they retorted. I doubt they were on the spectrum though , mind you they seemed to love rules unless it was them breaking them. No amount of "Grow up, shut up, and get over it!" ever worked , they really ruined my enjoyment of that forum , so I had to mute them.

Yeah, in Hitcher it's resistance is useless. But I'm a trekkie so prefer to stick with futile. Live long and prosper.

And I want to say get over it when I hear people constantly complain about things that are within their power to change.

Funny that you all are talking about that.

Was just thinking about that because I just watched my vid of Hitchhiker's Guide, and ...I expected to hear "futile", but heard "useless" instead. Its like hearing a sour note on a piano. Evil alien villains are supposed to say "resistance is futile".

Maybe I got that notion specifically from Star Trek, or maybe its from Hollywood in general. But I admit that either futile or useless would make sense. But hearing "useless" is like hearing "shave and a haircut" without the "two bits".

I knew someone who used to say something like "it might be five years, maybe twenty, but I'll find him alone someday and nobody is going to know what happened to him". I could never tell if he was serious or not. Crazy talk.

It seems most people worry too much.Hearing most people worry, or complain instead of creating a positive environment for people to be in forces people to only know and get drawn into mostly misery instead of the positive. Those of us with disabilities if the environment isn't positive then have to rise through a lot! Smile, don't worry be happy, the world of humans continuing to exist is counting on you to!Not only that but doing so actually blesses yourself and others in your environment! I've been in a state of continuous meltdown and burnout since coronavirus started because of all the worry and complaining and negativity going around. Things were difficult before this but now just wow! I know that positivity comes from within and we can't control people and we can't eliminate negativity but environment is the key!People were better in the 1990s but since 2001 negativity has been king! So stop worrying and complaining already and grow up and all that yada yada! Thanks!

People who whine about not being accepted when they are in fact racist or bigoted and are intolerant of those who are different.

People who seem to hold grudges and then get back at them many years later forgetting that people grow up and mature and they are still mad at someone for something they did when they were 16.

People who 'wish' they could prove others' opinions about them wrong, and then do nothing to provide that proof, or who go on hours-long profanity-lade tirades that only proves those opinions right.

People who 'wish' they could stop doing something non-addictive (i.e., overeating, playing with Legos, et cetera) while complaining endlessly about how that something is causing them problems, instead of just stopping.
