Having your own place is a sign of independence. Traditionally men were more independent than women were. In the old days the men earned the money by working in the fields &/or going to work & the women took care of the house & kids. Women needed to be with guys who could take care of them. Gender equality has made a lot of progress since then & nowadays both men & women tend to work. Lots of couples nowadays need both of them to be working for them to have decent lives. However in some places(like here in the US) the men tend to make more money than the women. The women do jobs that pay less or the women get paid less than men for the same job. Also lots of companies(at least here in the US) do not have or have very limited family & medical leave policies. If the woman gets pregnant & has to miss a bit of work, chances are she will not get paid or she will not get her full pay. Women can also lose their jobs because they get pregnant. Their employers won't give them reasonable accommodations so they are forced to quit. Or the woman could have some complication during her pregnancy or after the baby is born that can require the woman to miss work for an extended period & some employers fire people after they are out for a bit. I was fired from my last job after being out two weeks for medical reasons because it was company policy & two weeks is a very short amount of time for a woman to miss work due to her having a baby.

That said guys can have high requirements for women in terms of physical attraction & sex. Women want guys who are independent & can help support them financially & the guys want women are pretty & put out. There are PLENTY of exceptions with this of corse.

A simple rule of thumb

The prettier the girl, the higher the expectations

My mum expected me to be able to "lose a little weight" for 7 years of my life. She doesn't expect that of me because she knows I love food too much. I also don't need suggestions on how I can lose weight. That's not why I typed this response.

Some people are dependent.
Some people are users.
Some people are controllers.
Being independent around people like that eventually becomes impossible.
You give up your freedom, or you end the friendship.
Not your fault.
