Nah, I think it's the same situation for the general population and if anything that means being on the autism spectrum exacerbates that, even though I am making a generalization here.
I def think that in general it's harder for the younger generation to be independent but my extended family didn't seem to have major problems with being independent. Most of my cousins started college after graduating high-school & started working rite after graduating college & got married not long after & had a kid not that long after that. It seems like they had a much easier time with independence than my parents did. My cousins were making OK money rite after graduating college & they never had to work a 6th day of the week just to afford to eat out at McDonald's like my parents did when they were 1st married.

The younger generation has had to deal a “Great Recession” and a Pandemic recession. They have been burdened with much higher student debt loans to pay off. For the boomers if you could get by the probation period and were competent you had a good chance you could spend the rest of your career at the same company or at least the same career. Your company offered such benefits such as health insurance and a pension. The zoomers in todays gig economy are free agents/contract/temp workers. Because of a combination of economic uncertainty and the forever young ethos of the boomers they are staying in their jobs longer blocking the paths of the younger generatiions.

+1

A friend of mine told me about how his dad made him go into a shop once and ask for a job, much to his embarrassment. These days you can't just walk in and ask for an interview, you have to apply online and go through a bunch of hoops before potentially getting to the interview stage. In fact, if you do directly ask, then you actually hurt your chances of being hired.

The amount of entry level jobs that ask for a ridiculous amount of experience is quite considerable. Websites such as Fiverr have done notable damage on the design industry by offering services at such cheap rates. It does sometimes feel like you're stuck in the loop of needing experience but not being able to gain experience because you need experience to partake in that experience.

Hence why I'm concerned about the fact I'm graduating soon.
