Are sparkling drinks like champagne "women's drinks"?

Champagne isn't for drinking, it's for spraying to celebrate.

Of course, people look at you a bit funny if you're standing on top of your car spraying champagne to celebrate the birth of your first-born.

I christened my grandfather's boat with champagne and thought I was supposed to break the bottle, then let it fall into the water. It didn't go over very well when I did that and put broken glass all in his beach around the dock. They were all really angry with me. Might have been nice to tell me I was only supposed to tap it.


Mind the bad perm and my spider-from-Mars look.

Like others here, I would certainly not consider it a casual drink as the purview of one (biological) sex almost exclusively . And more like a celebratory drink.

Champagne, not so much.. more of a hoity toity la-dee-da thing.

Sweet fruity flavoured sugary alcoholic drinks (aka coolers) have been "girly," drinks in the 1980's-2000's, now with tons of premixed drinks in cans and over the last handful of years TONS of non-sweet sparkling alcoholic and non-alcoholic soda water based drinks they've become much more gender-neutral. Plenty of guys these days that don't drink beer but do drink vodka based sweet or non-sweet drinks.

And when you hangout with gay people, trans people, and drag queens.. the whole concept of gender just gets blurred anyways so drinks are just drinks at that point.

Some people, both men and women, seem to think it's important to drink beverages suitable for ones gender. I like sweet drinks. If somebody point it out to me that I drink a "woman's drink" I usually poke fun of them and say something like: "Well, for me it's no problem, I'm man enough to drink whatever I like but I think you are making the right choice by playing it safe!"

No, but due to biology the costs of drinking harder stuff typically increases more quickly for women than for men. Drink sizes are designed for men, so typically the drinks do more damage and have more impact on women.

Ewwww I hate those cooler things. They all taste like dish soap.

If I had to do one I'd draw the line at Mike's Hard Lemonade but it has to be ice cold with crushed ice, and some other flavouring to get rid of the soapiness. Cranberry juice might work.

I'm not sure the flavour of the drink does much to raise how much alcohol it can contain before there's a strong alcohol taste.

I find, whether it's a sweet mixed drink or beer, if it's over about 8% I can tell, compared to less than about 7%.
