Nope I don't feel disabled. I feel able, proud, strong...
atm I thrive on any negative and paranoia, turning it around easily with some working out or whatever... actually yes - I feel my paranoia is a minor disability... but other than that nope - I feel what I just said I feel lol.
Although sometimes that paranoia doesn't feel like a disability - more a talent that sometimes reacts nastily to me lol. If that makes sense. :D

If disabled equates to how well I can function in mainstream and modern society.

Yeah, I am.

No. It would be much better, of course, if I was better at dealing with people; it's very useful ability, especially in our modern society but my AS (or whatever it is; I'm undiagnosed - maybe I'm simply very strong INTJ with strange quirks - http://www.wrongplanet.net/modules.php? ... sc&start=0 - it's my post describing all those peculiarities of mine) but I'm glad of myself. I am smart and extremely logic, I always look at things from another perspective than people use to do it. I'm an intellectual type. I think it's easier to have AS when one is an intellectual who spends time inside of his/her head than when someone is quite a normal guy who likes simple things and wants to share his free time with people. Such a person probably doesn't feel well sitting at home all the time alone.

I only regret that I wasn't diagnosed in my childhood. But on the other hand, my mother then would start perceived me as somebody who's not equal with others and would be even more overprotective than she is.

I don't really see it as a disability. While I recognise that it causes problems for me, it also helps in some areas of my life.

I believe that my depression is a disability; my AS is not. :)

When I got some first information about AS I took all those things from the Internet very seriously and literally - I was sure that all people with AS are the same, that all those qualities of them described on sites about ASD are equally strong in each such a person and I started to imagine somebody being a human counterpart of Data from TNG

Then I was sure it's a serious disability, even some kind of mental retardation  It's caused by all that BS I read on such sites and forums for parents of children with AS
