I hope I didn't sound snooty when I said that. Here's the story, just in case somebody cares.

I went with my ex in 1999. She is Scottish, so we stayed with her aunt and uncle in a town in Renfrewshire (not far from you, I note). Her uncle decided to take us on a long tour of the country. This turned out to be fascinating. He is an architect, and my ex is a medieval historian, and so I ended up learning a lot, which is always a good thing. We ended up driving the entire coast, and cutting inland across the country several times during the trip. I suspect that many of our destinations were places he had always meant to visit but had never gotten around to before:) Anyway, after that, we spent a couple of weeks in Campbeltown, wandered around Arran for a few days, etc.

You live in an astonishingly beautiful country. As a bonus, one of my obsessive interests is English language accents and dialects. I got to spend several months wandering around a country with a large range of fascinating accents, eccentric and interesting people, breathtaking scenery, and weather that I actually enjoy.

If this post seems to ramble on, I am sorry. I didn't sleep last night. Heh.
