A quest system that doesn't hold your hand every step of the way would be nice... kind of like in Daggerfall, something that actually requires the player to think. (Fallout 3 is a slight improvement in this respect)

Next game should have much better AI then oblivion, Remember how much they bragged about the AI for oblivion? well the reason it was a let down is because eventually everyone would end up killing everyone and they had to simplify the AI alot quickly as they didn't have the time left to fix it before releasing it. so that should be alot better. Hopefully the next game will have this amazing AI we were promised with oblivion.

I think there should be quest lines that deal with the politics of the land alot more like in the older games.

More cultural aspects to city's and settlements for added realism, anything from clothes to say walking into a pub and having a musician playing "traditional" music. maybe made up accents too. seasonal events such as holidays or celebrations or w/e (not one's based on real life obviously) etc etc

More racism, it may sound like a terrible thing to say if you never played morrowind but there is nothing funnier than listening to a dunmer saying derogatory things about the argonians. this probably ties in with the cultural aspects.

more variance in natural environments, morrowind had maybe a wee to much varietal as great as it was but oblivion had to little so maybe somewhere in between?

More consistency with game lore, there were alot of conflicts with game lore in oblivion. considering the people who made arena and the people who made oblivion are all different people you can expect a view but seriously.. that was too much :(

more weapons and armours.

ability to craft weapons, armours and other stuff (new skills?)

the ability to get simple jobs such as being a hunter, sailor, town guard etc for role-playing purposes.

more variance in ruins. I find it hard to believe that the ayleids decided that all of their cities should look exactly the same or that colovians and nibenese forts looked exactly the same even though their architecture is clearly different from each others.

more things to workout for yourself in quests like in the older games.

the ability to set up and run a successful business or go broke trying for role-playing purposes. (would crossover with jobs idea)

the need to eat and sleep. sleeping already plays a big part in the game so why not eating? both things should affect various health factors and skills (health, fatigue, speed, strength etc)

seasonal weather. weather system in oblivion was cool, but lets take it up a notch?

variance in wildlife, regional variance of species, smaller animals like rabbits and bats etc, and maybe even some really rare odd animals just for fun?

the ability to obtain pets.

larger more complex magic system.

larger more complex combat system.

fishysticks.. somewhere has to sell em!

more clothes.

The ability to change your appearance hairstyle, tattoos, piercings, beards etc

more variance in body types, tall, short, skinny, fat, toned, muscular, triangular.. w/e there should be some limitations obviously, you don't want 6ft bosmer walking around... that's just silly :P

more non combat skills like i said before could be linked to jobs or skills like crafting, mining etc

mini games - fancy gambling or playing darts in the pub? then go ahead! also if you liked the arena, why not try some fist fighting for money? or maybe some jousting or an archery competition.. the list could go on for ages.

There are so many things they could do but tbh i cant be bothered to write out any more right now :P

if you are lying I will destroy you... srsly.

Bows that are actually worth a damn in the higher levels.

NPCs that are worth a damn.

Also, I think oblivion is the only game that actually gets harder the more powerful your character becomes...

Yes bethesda is coming out with elder scrolls 5...

however all details on it are unknown...

They will be releasing details some time this year id imagine as the game is scheduled to be completed and out in shops sometime in 2010, which probably means that they have already started making it :D

This gives me the idea of organizing the defense of a castle, fort, or town against an attack by outlaws, Daedra, or invading soldiers. With the option of going to the other side to organize the attack. Maybe even playing both sides to ensure the outcome of the battle. And make it something important that will affect the ending of the game. Because there should be more than one possible ending.

Multiple possible endings would be interesting... except it can make things very complicated when they're making the sequel. Bethesda did that in Daggerfall, which had I think 6 different possible endings, and so for the sequel they had to cook up some kind of convoluted implausible plot twist ("The Warp in the West") to reconcile all the different possibilities... doing that again might be pushing it.

Elder scrolls Oblivion needs above all, a completely reworked magic/casting and melee fighting system.

take a look at MOUNT AND BLADE for a top-notch 1st person melee combat engine.

For the magic system.. c'mon, that ridiculous 'raise fist to cast' and the swirly lights of magic.. well, lets just say that when a game that's nearly 12 years old beats Oblivion in this category you know its BAD. ( Ultima Underworld series from Origin)

A really good oblivion mod or re-make would need a Mount and Blade type melee system and a magic system that is more interactive with the game world. For the magic part I'd say something similar to the way Final Fantasy XI magic works (and by magic I include the bard/dancer/ninja and summoner magics) combined with the flexibility of the magic spells found in the elder scrolls game.

I'd like to see any RPG that is:

    1. Playable from page one.

    2. Defined well enough to provide a solid framework from which to build on.

    3. Flexible enough to allow for creativity of play.

    4. Contained in one or two core rulebooks - Player's and Referee's Handbooks only.

    5. Unlike any other.
Is this possible? Are there any RPGs as described currently on the market?
