You know, just being a musician alone, something has to be very wrong with you.

It's not an easy life. You don't think about being a professional musician then mention the wife, the house, and the kids in the same breath.

You're looking at a life of poverty, possible substances abuses and addiction, loneliness and isolation, maybe even homelessness and legal troubles.

In order for someone to go ahead with those odds and say, "I'm going to be a professional musician anyway," he'd have to be abnormal.

A lot of musicians are prepared for failure but they are so consumed by their special interest, nothing else matters. Ian Curtis, Jimi Hendrix, Brian Jones, Kurt Cobain, Eminem...

I often felt the same way Jimi felt. I played guitar. I think he saw that as the extension of his communication. He couldn’t verbalize as well as play the guitar.

I believe the majority of people saw it as entertainment; however, I don’t think he saw himself as an entertainer. I’d place it more of a teacher. But general population wasn’t sure how to listen.

Jimi Hendrix's mother was manic depressive. He likely got it from her side of the family, if he had it.
