What Would YOU Have Done?
Thanks guys
I don't know what my dad was thinking. It wasn't my mother's concern for the well-being of others so much as she kept us away from people who were sick because it was a pain dealing with sick kids. Thus, my dad's reasoning didn't even apply. *shrugs*
I know what viruses can do to the elderly, and it isn't good. I'm still sick with this and it's kicking my butt.

I spent the last 5 year taking care of my chronically ill, eldery father, who had been in hospital several times before he died for pneumonia that developed after getting a "minor" cold or bug. Not to sound patronizing, but this seems like a no brainers to me.
As for your kids, their young bodies are still building up their immune systems. Their bodies are literally under attack and having to divert a lot of energy and nutrients into building new antibodies and enough white blood cells to fight the infection. Any doctor would tell you your kids need to be home, resting, drinking plenty of fluids and eating nutritious foods precisely because this is what their bodies need to get better.
So I see no reason why you should question your decision and make excuses like "they're autistic, so it's worse when they don't feel well." It's simple biology, and whatever social expectations you think you should have lived up to here, it doesn't trump biology.

It was a no-brainer for me. Just wanted to see who agreed (or didn't) since my father seemed to think I was being an overreactive germophobe.
And I wasn't "making excuses", merely citing additional reasons that taking them would have been more stress (on everyone) than it was worth. Illness amplifies their autistic symptoms profoundly.

The staff at my kids' school say that I'm considered one of the best mothers they know, because I never ever send my kids to school sick.
Bottom line, if your instinct as a mom, and your logic as an intelligent person merge to make a decision, then trust that decision as right. Ignore other people when necessary.
