We use sensible measurements here.

1 litre of pure water will fit in a cube 10cm on each side, weigh 1kg, boil at 100C and turn from ice to water at 0C.

1 litre of petrol costs almost £1. I remember when it was 69p (about the time unleaded was introduced).

WHAT!? Convert to the metric system like the rest of the world!! NEVER!! !

HEHEHE :roll: , as much as I would hate the change, I will admit that metric just makes more sence. Here in USA we know this, just dont want to change.

US gallon = 3.8 litres

Imperial gallon = 4.5 litres

In eastern England we're £1.05 for a litre of unleaded, £1.08 for diesel.

So a US gallon of unleaded is £3.99, or the equivalent Imperial gallon is £4.73

At present exchange rates, in US dollars that's $7.91 for a US gallon or $9.38 per Imperial gallon; 5,52 euros for a US gallon or 6,55 euros per Imperial gallon.

There's supposed to be another 2p per litre going onto to petrol prices in the New Year :evil:

And over 70% of that is tax (VAT and fuel duty). People pay for that out of income that's already been reduced by around 40% through taxation (income tax and employers & employees NI).

1.76 dollars per litre.
That's New Zealand dollars, by the way.

Canada has long since gone Metric in its gasoline prices.
However, gas prices in Edmonton are about as low as anywhere
and they are about CND 1.00/litre here. With the recent weakness in
the US dollar, and the size of the US gallon (= about 3.79 litres,
compared with 1 Imperial gallon= about 4.54 litres), that would work out
to about USD 3.80 per gallon.

CND=CaNadian Dollar
USD=US Dollar

So now I guess I should ask... Are Americans just a bunch of whiners when it comes to our 'high' gas prices? :wink:

I have known about Canada's prices for a long time, and in the last several years I have heard how high European prices were/are.

Still... I think it'm more about the speed and amount that our gas prices have climbed than the actual price itself, that gets to me.
