"Boys are stupid, throw rocks at them" is hardly a misandrist statement. It's the kind of thing young girls would say, because at that point that's precisely the kind of reaction they'd have.

That being said, I do agree that there is still a marked gender gap when it comes to certain subjects - like the aforementioned domestic violence issue. A woman beating a man bloody is not nearly as newsworthy as a man kicking the crap out of a woman (or a man beating a man, or a woman beating a woman, for that matter).

However, I highly doubt women beat men bloody as often as men beat them. As far as the more casual attitude about that, (at least compared to the reverse) well like I said that represents an underdog favorment that's not excluded to women. It also applies to anyone who is smaller, weaker, older, younger, ...ect. That attitude has nothing to do with misandry, and rarely affects whether or not a woman is punished for it unless self defence is the proven reason. It's not an extra point for women to be given special treatment like that anyway. That's actually pretty old fashioned in Western culture. Now if a man or a woman were to do the same horrible act to a child, disabled, or elderly person, the public outrage would most likely be about the same. It's considered cowerdly for a man to do something violent to a woman because most are smaller and weaker. It's just as bad for a woman to do something violent to someone who is obviously weaker than she is. But again, women are still a far greater target for gender specific violence than men are, so I fail to see why this is more of an issue.

OK... I admit it's a sexist statement, but I formed a lot of my "ethics" from reading, mostly writers like Heinlein when I was very young. I've always felt, that a man who strikes a woman UNLESS DEFENDING AGAINST AN ATTACK against himself or others is no real man. To me it would be a shameful thing, worthy of contempt. The same goes for a man who strikes a child. And I don't mean "spanks". Children sometimes need to have a punishment that fits the situation, some things are so far past "time outs and privileges revoked" it isn't funny. And I don't care what Dr Phil may think you can't "reason" with a two year old reaching for a hot stove. They don't understand "reason". They understand having someone say NO!! ! and their butt swatted for emphasis.... Striking a child is a contemptible thing, just is striking a woman. Not because they're the "weaker" sex, but because a man striking anyone who isn't attacking him is contemptible.

When I was in elementary school there was only 4 adult men, the principal, the 6th grade teacher, and the janitors; is near-lack of male teachers and teacher's aides typical of elementary schools? If it is then THAT is a problem, IMO, because it creates a bias towards girls.

Biases and steriotypes affect every group of people. No race, religion, gender, age group, class, or nationality is free from it, and it's not likely to go away any time soon. But it's not difficult to see how it affects some more than others. As a white person, I don't feel that issues relating to predjudice against whites are top priority when I can clearly see lingering effects of the difficulties our nation's history has had on other races. I want fair treatment, sure, but it's still not even close for them yet either.

Until a boy asks his mum "Why do they want to throw rocks at me?"

it IS misandry when a boy hears it...

There seems to be a trend in the media of portraying women as smart and tough but seemingly mean, and men as dumb and goofy but lovable. I realize this is supposed to go against sexism, but I think there are better ways to do so. This stereotype is actually harmful to girls in a way, because it's telling them they must always be stronger and smarter than the boys in order to be worthy. I think it's much better to portray men and women realistically than to rely on stereotypes.

As the only male in my immediate family, I've experienced misandry a lot. My mother and my sister both believe that just because I'm the only male, they think it's their right to treat me and other males like dirt.

An example is that my mother believes that everything I do and/or say is wrong, such as going to school.

I wonder, is your mother doing this because she has negative views of men, or is it because she is a mother and she thinks she knows what is better for you? Either way, you should let her know how it makes you feel.

I hope your experiences with your mother and sister do not lead you to believe that all women are that way. My sisters and I have the utmost respect for our brother.

Men are so easily intimidated by women. How can that be when we're so soft and and delicate and helpless?
At least misandry is much more justified because the majority of serial killers and rapists are male, many women have been in horrific abusive relationships, and if the men had their way we'd still be living like the 1800's as nothing but their sex slaves, pumping out babies they have no interest in caring for. :x

Seriously, if someone decided to break into my home in the middle of the night, assault me, stab me to death and then dump my body out in the middle of nowhere, what are the chances that it will be a male? Much greater than it being female.

Now if you'll excuse me I have to go before I get testosterone poisoning. :skull:
