Video games.... what's that?
Honestly! I don't even own a telly, let alone a video gamming system. The last (and most likely first) video game I remember having played was Pac Man at an ice cream parlour in the early 1980s. Not only did it drive me crazy, but I failed miserably.
My oldest nephew has an XBox. When I visit my sister and her family he likes to show off his skills. All the noise and flashes and quick movements are too much... OVERLOAD, OVERLOAD, OVERLOAD sensory issues.
No thank you, I'll pass.
Besides which, like telly, video games tend to stifle creativity, especially in young children. I didn't have a gamming system growing up and the only computer in the house was a Commodore Vic 20 (still around somewhere) hooked up to a black and white telly. Never used much, rather seen as a novelty. My family had one telly in the lounge. Other than news and the occasional Friday night (usually a rented video) rarely used. My family either talked, listened to music (classical, folk, some 50's, I also liked Big Band), played games or read.
Today, I'd much rather read than watch the "idiot box" any old day. As for gamming......
