I like to snack on crisps (potato chips to Americans) with tomato stock (the kind that comes in tubes).

I've been known to do it before. It's not something I make a habit of, though.

It's good for helping hairballs "pass through." Are you a cat?
I like ginger candy- can't get anyone else to eat it. So, I have to eat the whole bag ("More for me!") which is delicious, but not necessarily a good thing.

What is ginger candy--is it just dried ginger with a sugar coating?

It's crystallized chunks of ginger root- soaked in sugar- soooooo craveable.

It's not really a food per se, but I find everything tastes better with salt. Bread. Carrots. Apples. Chocolate. Red licorice.

I'll take your word for it! I've tried ginger when it's in chutney or with sushi, and it's so sickly-sweet, I can't stand it.

Blackcurrant farming is actually banned in many states in the US.

I know, but I live in Canada. They're also quite popular in Europe.

I found them at a market once--then later when I went back to the same place, they didn't seem to know what I was talking about. I think their English was lacking.

My mom's neighbour has several bushes, so I had a big bag of them in the freezer. But now my supply is almost bare. I would plant my own bushes, but it takes 3 years to get a yield.

I don't really know what people eat.

Do people eat stuff like cassava also know as manioc or yuca?

I eat some lots of Asian spices like kalonji/Nigella sativa

frozen is nice but not as good. Like if freeze blueberries they loose their distinct blue musky outer coating and actually look dark red not blue. They don't taste like blueberries should.


blackberries, redcurrents, whitecurrents are all in the gooseberry family. Do you like gooseberries themselves?

A good combination is to heat a handful them with 1/2 a tb of water, (a small amount of sugar is optional) and some mustard seeds until the gooseberries just burst. Then serve this with an oily fish such as fresh mackerel.

I don't think I've ever tried gooseberries, I'm not even sure what they look like. That sounds like a good recipe, though, I love the sour fruit/fish combination.

I like redcurrants too, but they have a totally different flavour than the black ones. I don't think freezing ruins the flavour; it's not quite as fresh, but it's still raw.

whitecurrents are sort of yellow and not as sharp as redcurrents. They are actually just a variation of redcurrents like albino.

Freezing can be good if it is done immediately because it prolongs the half life of the vitamins such as vitamin C. So it is actually kind of healthier in some cases.

Do you like raspberries, loganberries, blackberries?

This may seem odd but I've never really liked strawberries. I guess i didn't trust the whole seeds on the outside when I was young. But in reality the taste is not that great anyway. it is amazing how colour fools taste. Like if you change the colour of things people get the taste confused.

Kosher dill pickles. My family thinks they're gross, but I crave them and can't get enough!
