No. Reasons include:

1. I don't want all my past aired out for everyone to see.
2. I either clam up or come across as brash, neither of which are good for public speaking.
3. I don't want people aiming at me with guns.
4. My views might be seen as... crazy?
5. All my privacy would be lost.
6. I don't know what to do with a $4,300 prostitute.

You don't have to tell them that. But seriously, the very nature of how the job is obtained, ensures mediocrity. Our place is elsewhere. I find it dismal to hear the chief executive mispronounce the word nuclear. The phrases breeder reactor, high temperature gas reactor, sulfur-iodine process, etc. are absent from discourse. Consider how many hundreds of times over the money blown up in Iraq could have financed our participation in ITER. That's just for starters.

"Under democracy one party always devotes its chief energies to trying to prove that the other party is unfit to rule--and both commonly succeed, and are right... The United States has never developed an aristocracy really disinterested or an intelligentsia really intelligent. Its history is simply a record of vacillations between two gangs of frauds."

The reason why I'd do it is also the reason why I wouldn't - I don't much like politicians.

I wouldn't be able to handle the stress and personal attacks that the media does nor do I think that I could really make any difference if I were in office because the whole system stinks. If I were an absolute monarch I could do something, but with "checks and balances", which assumes the individual may be corrupt but people on the whole aren't, almost nothing could really be done.

I don't need a lawyer - I need a big black woman with a rolling pin - to defend me from McCarthy.

Communist? Nah, socialist. I just have two Gold Stars.

XD

I would run for office. If there was no better candidate.
