Some would say the more common types of aliens man has conjured with his imagination are actually projections of ourselves in the future.

I already got a big head, I'm halfway there.
Anyone want to have alien babies with me?

Give me zombies, give me werewolves, give me any form of monster aside from that.

Nothing disturbs me more than those cold, lifeless eyes belonging to the conventional "alien." :(

That's another thing, how can aliens mate with ppl?
There's just no way unless there's proof.

I'm in SETI since last century! (July 1st 1999, my PC crushed its first unit)

In another discussion of the Drake Equation, I had linked to an XKCD cartoon about it. The alt-text on that one was, "There are thousands of civilizations out there. They're just not shouting ceaselessly in all directions."

That said, though, I do support the SETI mission - certainly more cautious than the group that wants to start shouting first...

As for breeding with aliens, we can't even crossbreed with other species on this planet, and we share an evolutionary chain with them. I think we can rule out alien crossbreeds, at least without laboratory assistance.

SETI is such a laugh ! ! Imagine a little green alien sitting at a telegraph keyset, wearing a little eyeshade, tapping away frantically, "Is there anybody out there? Is there anybody out there?"

We have no clue how another civilization would communicate. We are so provincial we imagine that aliens could only communicate using the channels we would use ! !

What a joke ! !

:x

If the aliens knew how primitive we were, it would be best for them to put out an AUTOMATED TRANSMITTER (Why do you suppose it has to be manned?), that searches on all channels, including the primitive ones they used to use.

Indeed ! !

Imagine the situation if Aliens DID see our TV broadcasts ! !
If they had any sense whatsoever, they'd immediately decide to make themselves as invisible as they could ! !!

I don't see why. We couldn't hurt them if they were even more than 200 years advanced than us.

Could a revolutionary war Britain hurt a modern day America? That 200 year technology gap would give America an advantage that would make such a proposition comical. Modern day body armor, tanks, and helicopters could wage war in such a way where the casualties on the modern troops would be near 0.

Now, add 1000 years. Add 3000 years. Every span of time added on to an alien races existence would make them more and more impervious to any attack by us.

Depends on the battlefield. If we met in a heavily forested area, they could inflict losses.
If we met in the open, we would have no fear of them.

But remember the first "Predator" movie? What if they see in the infrared spectrum?
What if our atmosphere isn't breathable to them?
What if primitive nun-klear weapons still inflict damage on them?
And germs and so on ...
