Probably not a rabbit, they are adorable, but they're not "smart" as in doing tricks and stuff like that.
Lizards are cool!

A chinchilla. Cute, softest animal you'll ever feel, entertaining and fairly intelligent not to mention not found at every hydrant, beach or picnic area...like a dog.

Well hey!! A ferret isn't that unusual and neither is a Chinchilla , my aunt has chinchillas!! !

My Grandma's Akita dog is unusual!! !

A dog, any breed, that's cat friendly

What breeds are your cats? My favorite breeds are tabbies, Siamese, and Calicos, among those breeds I've been owned by, and Ocicats and Abyssinians, among those I haven't had.

Cats and dogs are my favorite animals.

well, you could always invest in that cold seawater aquarium and get an octopus. They are very intelligent, very curious and very unusual. THey might be high maintenance and you better have a good lid on that aquarium though. They like toys and love puzzles especially when food is involved.

I can't imagine taking an ocupus on a leash!

Man I've always loved and respected octupi, but probably it wouldn't be very convenient if I wanted an outdoor companion.

I've always wanted a fox but you'd need to live somewhere they're legal and space so it'd have some room to run/dig.

I had a bearded dragon once, and despite his spiky exterior, i thought his eyes communicated warmth and intelligence.

A rat.

A friend of mine had both a rat and a cat. They got along great. I think that the rat was too big be cat food. I hated rats at first but ever since I saw this one, now I find them cute.
