I'm the same way, I like to help people but I also like to spam with my friends. :D

I know what threads are appropriate for that, I think most of us do.
That's good :D I don't think the OP was talking about me, but I'm still worried that he might think I'm a spammer (darn paranoia)

I think he may actually be talking about me, though I don't spam serious topics.

Well I just post in places where I think need responding like the Victoria Day. I guess some people don't appreciate responses from those of a high post count. :(

I only post in topics where I have something to say, which aren't many. Though my post count makes it look like I'm lying through my teeth.

I suppose there's something ironic about this in a forum about ASDs, but posting even useless replies can at least make the topic's starter feel like they aren't being ignored I would think. Polite recognition, if you will.

I try not to contribute, pointlessly, but when I'm in a good mood, I need some outlet. I try to hold-back when I'm in a bad mood, but sometimes I get suicidal and just don't care. I mean, it's hard to care about others feelings, when you don't plan on being alive tomorrow.

Just how literally do you mean this? Are you talking about people who post replies that are only semi-relevant to the OP or do you mean to include replies that are on topic but do not exactly answer the question?

Sometimes I reply to posts in which I can't answer the question but can offer something that I think might be of interest to the OP. I think that sometimes, simply hearing that someone else is in a similar situation or has the same question can be useful. Some people are reassured by the idea that they're not alone in whatever situation. Other people, who can answer the question, might be more likely to make the effort to reply if they see that the info would be useful to more than one person.

Were I a really useful engine topic

I tend to be picky about where and what I post, and I do not use the forums to chat. But if others do this, and there is no malice, spam or malicious spam, then it is up to the mods to deal with "useless posts and replies" if such material is there.

Digger1, let Administration know if there is a problem. 8)

Er, not really. Most communities I've come across are MUCH stricter than this one as to posting sprees from any one individual.

Oh, sorry, I wasn't aware he was talking about a specific person. I thought he just meant general slightly-off-topic-ness.

I'm sorry, I cannot help the OP with his problem, but I was drawn irresistibly to post in this thread.

Seriously though, pointless posting is just the nature of the Internet. Every other Internet forum is just as bad.

...And many internet forums are worse.

I think that there's a meaning behind each post. :P
