The Guns and Shooting Thread

Stupid idiot...could have gotten us both killed! At that age I didn't know any better.
You shoudn`t call your father that.. I know I know, all parents can be a pain at some point, but please listen to my story..
-In may of `95 me and my dad (one of the greatest men ever to walk this earth) had a bad fight. Didnt make up.(always do that, always)
Two days later he dropped dead of a massive heart attack right in front of the house were we lived then. Gone in 2 seconds.
And that was it. Thats 13 years ago, Never cried, just pushed it down and said nothing to no one. I`ll never be done with it, ever. Because I was an idiot. I deserve to be tormented for that. I am trash compared to him, truly a great man, I dont even reach him to the knees when it comes to anything.
Never take them for granted.
Do not do what I did. It WILL haunt you for the rest of your life, if your anything like me.
Miss you dad. r.i.p

I own lots of rifles, some pistols, and two shotguns. I would own more if I could. I enjoy shooting when I can. I do not hunt, but if they existed out here, I would consider hunting feral pigs.
In the military I carried around an M-16. No big deal to me.
I've shot the M-16 and the AK-47 and the SKS in the same day. I found the AK a better shot than the M-16, but the SKS felt better in shooting for me. Interestingly, I would prefer the SKS over the AK. *shrug*
Though I was in the military, I never did get a chance to shot fully automatic. I'd like to try that once.
I would also like to try shooting a 20mm cannon, but I will dream on.
I got to shoot a fully-auto M-16 when I was 17. It was awesome! You wouldn't believe how much the repeated recoil makes the barrel want to "lift" while firing. It's kind of hard to control, unless you fire in bursts. Definitely recommended!

I got to shoot the gun at a National Guard demonstration. They let you experience what it was like to live the life a guardsman for a day. I never joined the guards but, that particular day was a great experience. I'm glad I volunteered. I wonder if they do that anymore?

Guns are ghettofabulous. You can get them anywhere for a cheaper price like an AK27!!

Have you turned gangsta?
Just making a little humorous statement about what guns can do. I had a friend get shot in the middle of gunfire in a broken down neighborhood. We don't know who did it and they think it was by "accident". He can never use his right leg anymore thanks to the perpetrator and his good ole gun. Not to mention so many mishaps we've had around here with guns because of idiots who just want to blow some steam off consequently killing someone in the end. So that tells me any fool even a criminal can get a gun anywhere.
I'll admit I've always wanted a gun for my own because of the feel I had for it in target practice. Yet I hear more bad news than any good coming from something that could've been prevented. So I have mixed feelings about guns.

Cool. Cool.
My main job in the Air Force was working with munitions. I dealt with bombs, missiles, grenades, small arms, det cord, etc. A few times we took older things down to the range to blow up. That was fun. Exploding a few pounds TNT is neat because you can see the shock wave coming across the ground toward you before you feel it.
I am glad that I served for many things, but one of them was for the experience of being in situations that one normally is not around.

I actually have a degree in gunsmithing, but I don't get to do it very often. I'm always tinkering with my own stuff, but there's fairly limited employment opportunities in Seattle for a gunsmith. Hopefully, someday I'll be able to put my expertise to work on some ideas I have, but till then, I'll just tinker and enjoy myself.
Hi Dox, I read the thread you mentioned over in the current events section. You sir, have spoken well.
*salutes*
I am curious about your "tinkering." Anything you care to share here?
I've got a couple of little projects going at the moment. I'm doing some clean up work on a neighbor's shotgun, he shortened the barrel a little too much, so I brazed on an extension to bring it up to legal length. I went ahead and used a pre-threaded piece of tubing to make the extension, so it's possible to screw on a muzzle break or something. Not something you often see on a shotgun, so it was kind of a fun project.
I also have an absolutely bone stock Rock Island Arsenal M1911A1 that is mine that I'm tinkering with a little. I'm currently keeping it pretty stock, just cleaning up some of the internal machining marks and such. It's accurate and reliable enough out of the box that I don't really feel the need to do much too it, other than the obligatory throat and polish on the feed ramp and chamber mouth so that it handles hollow points. I'm trying to be subtle with this one, since I do carry it, and gun mods can be a lawsuit magnet if you have to use the gun. Same thing with the ammo, I do reload, but I stick to commercial stuff for carry, since some attorney will try to say you loaded some ultra lethal anti thug bullet for the express purpose of maiming their felonious client if you pop him with a handload. Now the 200 grain +p hollow points I bought over the counter, those are perfectly okay...
I've also got a couple of rebluing jobs to do, though I'm in the middle of acquiring the equipment to do that right. Bluing is not difficult, but it takes some really nasty chemicals heated to high temperatures, and a lot of metal prep gear. The prep work is the hard part, the bluing itself couldn't be easier. I'd love to get some nickel and chrome plating equipment eventually, though I really don't know too much about what goes into that. I hear that the new electroless nickel is really easy to do, but again I don't know a whole lot about it. My Desert Eagle is nickel plated, and I really like the look of it, so I'd love to apply that finish to a couple of my handguns. My Smith and my Tangfoglio 10mm are desperately in need of refinishing, and I think either one of them would look great in nickel. For a carry gun, nickel has one sort of humorous advantage over bluing; it makes the gun look bigger! It's true, a shiny gun looks bigger, and thus more intimidating. It does make it slightly more prone to casual observation, so thats the trade off.
Cool, another 10mm shooter! I have a S&W 1006 that I’ve had for quite a while.
I’ve been shooting more .45 ACP and 9mm lately, though.
I usually go shooting once a month or more. The problem is that work gets in the way and the gun club is 40 miles from here. An 80 mile round trip with gas costing what it does makes me cringe.
I shoot mostly rifles and handguns but I have a few shotguns, too. Also a few traditional type muzzleloaders.
I have up to 300 yards to use for rifle shooting. Most of my handgun shooting is done within defensive ranges of 10 yards or less. If I’m shooting a longer barreled magnum revolver I shoot up to 100 yards sometimes. I have a concealed carry permit and my carry gun is usually a Glock 23.
I got a progressive press a few months ago so I reload more of my ammo on it. Before that I just had my single stage press which isn’t nearly as fast, especially for handgun ammo.
I’m not real adept at gunsmithing but I’ve refinished a few stocks on older rifles, done some touch-up cold bluing, replaced parts, and of course mounted scopes and all that.
For me guns are an obsession and have been since I can remember and I’ve always been comfortable with them.
It’s always been a mystery why some people are so terrified of even the sight of them.
The noise from gunfire has never bothered me like it does with some Aspies except if I have to think too much while other people are shooting, if that makes any sense.
My latest purchase is a Kimber Ultra CDP II which because of the Marxist s**t laws in the PRK, I cannot pickup until June 6th. My other small 45s are a Bond Arms Texas Defender, Glock 30, a Glock 36, and a SIG P245. This little beast is smaller than the rest, with less slide mass and not suitable for use with +P's, therefore I will start by using CCI Gold Dots in 185 grain flavor and I may later try the CCI 230 short barrel Gold Dots and Corbon DPX loads. The slides on the mini Kimbers are shorter than the slides on my two Glock 26s, I am really looking forward to taking this gun to the range and putting it through its paces. My next purchase was supposed to be a SIG 239 in 40/357 SIG to compliment its 9mm brother that I have and like a lot, but I made the mistake of checking out my friends Tactical Ultra and couldn't resist. My other two 1911s that I currently own are a Kimber Custom II that I had MMC 3 dot adj. sights put on, and installed a Smith & Alexander Arched checkered mainspring housing, and a Kimber TLE/RL II that has had an Ed Brown Arched Grooved mainspring put on it. I am going to the Gunshow tomorrow and buying 1000 rounds of 230 hardball and some standard pressure JHP loads for function test and familiarization.
At a gun show back in about 2001 one of the dealers had a WW2 era Swiss Solothurn S18/1000 20mm semi-auto anti-tank rifle. I think he wanted about 12k for it and the ammo, when you can find it, was $32 per round. It doesn't take the same round as a 20mm Vulcan, it's and older out of production round that has a bigger case and a higher velocity. The 20mm Lahti uses the same round, by the way. The gun weighs almost 100 lbs empty and uses a 10 shot magazine and has a scope. The weapon is charged by turning a hand crank that has a bicycle chain inside to retract the bolt.
The same gun was also made by Rheinmetal-Borsig AG in Germany as the PzB-41.
Early in the war tank armor became too thick for the 20mm but some of these guns were still used for lighter work that still needed some major punch.
I drooled over the one at the gun show that I saw for a few minutes and moved on.
Here's a video I found but it's not very discriptive and doesn't show the whole gun.
