I forgot to add, I'm always open to talking to new people. So if anyone frequently gets bored off their ass and wants to BS, I have a lot of time on my hands and wouldn't mind. As it is now, I only regularly talk to three people, and they're not fellow Aspies.

I have tons of contacts on my list and I hardly ever bother removing sn's. I haven't spoken to lot of them in years. I have very few buddies I am still friends with I met few years ago.

Some people think I am annoyed by them or mad at them because I am not talking much. I hardly ever have a good IM conversation going. I often get IM blocks. Get it? IM blocks? I don't know what to talk about often.

I hate using IM, I prefer talking via e-mail.

It's a little like talking to me in "real-life" ...I rethink what I'm going to say/or type so many times most people flee from sheer boredom after looking at a blinking cursor and a blank screen for too long.

What exactly is IM? I've never used it.

I may not be really an aspie, but I like to IM people a lot. It's much more easier than emailing someone.

Instant messaging.

There is AOl instant messenger
Yahoo Instant messenger
and MSN messenger. You can download them from the websites.

You and that person type back and forth. It's like talking on the phone except you are typing what you want to say.

He probably would have known what I meant if I could have fit the entire term 'instant messaging' in the thread title. It was due to space limitations that I had to narrow the word down to 'IM'.

I'm not a fan of real time chats, I get accused of "ignoring people", I use forums because I can reply in my own time and no-one will care.

I never have much to say in IM, or in chat rooms.
Much prefer emails and letters, even thought they sometimes take ages to write.

Have used the msn messenger before a little, but it stressed me,
because of the "ding" sound everytime someone writes to you
or something. Got stressed and was hard to focus, no good reason why.
Just felt like I had to hurry answering or something.

You can easily turn the sounds off. I haven't had the sounds turned on for years.

Yes, but then I forgot to answer and people began to nag,
because I was to slow compared to the rest they were writing
with. Its not really a problem, just me being a little "off" when
it comes to those things. I dont feel i need msn messenger and
such the way my life is now.

Turn the sound down and you won't hear it.

A better thing to do is just turn the sounds off in the preferences of whichever IM client you are using. Then you can listen to music and stuff in peace instead of always hearing these beeping sounds.

I also disable all of the sounds in Windows because I find that the Windows sounds and the music at startup and shutdown annoying.

Same here only it's usually the small talk.

Aargh, it's frustrating. :x
