My bottle of dandruff shampoo says washing daily is beneficial. I suggest using Head & Shoulders or its generic counterpart. It makes my hair feel good.

if you have fine, blond hair, it actually looks worse if you don't wash it daily. Been doing that for nigh on 50 years, ain't dead yet...;)

It depends on your hair. Shampoo strips your hair of oils. Conditioner exists to replenish the oils you've just removed. If your hair is currently very dry, it might be a good idea to not wash it as often. You can encourage your body to cleanse itself by massage your scalp, letting the shower head rain on it, combing more often, etc. to stimulate your follicles. I have hair that gets really dry if I shampoo it too often...and sometimes too often seemed like once a week. I had a lot of trouble figuring out how to handle it, until one day I decided not to use shampoo anymore, and only wash my hair when it gets grungy. When I do wash it, I use bar soap. Since then, my hair has been shinier and more manageable.

I read somewhere that it's good to let your hair get oily about once a week if you can stand it (I have to wash my hair a lot, it looks greasy at the end of the day after a wash anyway.) It recommended a saturday/sunday combo of washing saturday and leaving it sunday to go greasy, and washing it monday morning. It also said to stay in and watch a couple movies with a bowl of popcorn, now that's my kind of weekend! Also, since I've been incredibly busy lately, i don't have time to wash every day, so, braiding my hair and putting a bandana around it covers the greasy, and I can shower when I get home, I <3 bandanas @_@.

For me, washing my hair can greatly vary. Sometimes I can go up to four days without having to wash it and sometimes I have to wash it twice a day. It really depends on what it wants to do.

It all depends on the condition of your scalp. If you have no problems with skin irritations like psorisis or eczema, then I guess it's okay to wash your hair every day.

That said, hair that is over-hydrated can become weak and brittle due to over-processing and excessive exposure to heat sources such as dryers or straighteners. This is why most stylist recommend only washing every second to third day.

As for me, I suffer from a mild form of psorisis of the scalp stemming from having cradle cap as a baby. Because of this condition, I find that if I wash my hair more than once a week, my scalp becomes highly adgitated and tends to dry out faster, thus making the problem worse.

By only washing once a week, my scalp has 6 days worth of natural sebum (the oily secretions of the scalp that keep things healthy- hair is self-cleaning, y'know!) to soak in which works as a natural remedy to dry scalp. Granted, my hair can look slightly greasy because of this but it works out better in the long run.

That stuff doesn't do anything for me, I have to use the expensive tar shampoo instead :x

I can only go one or two days before my head starts itching and I need to wash it =/
